We have a one year old short legged, broken JRT. His name is Wishbone. He is a great running companion, sleeps with Jessica every night, co-habitates nicely with our two cats. In fact they seem to play games outside with each other by chasing and stopping. The breeder we purchased him from was very careful to select the best dog for the type of perspective owner and their lifestyle. Finding a good breeder is important. Our friends also have a JRT from the same litter so we get the two of them together on a regular basis for play dates. Wishb's tail is shorter than most .

Please somebody help me. I am trying to locate a short-legged female Jack Russell puppy, and I am having trouble finding one. My J-R died about 1 1/2 years ago, and I would really like to have another one. I am in Harrisburg, Pa. but am willing to travel to Maryland, Virginia, or any of the surrounding states. Thanks, Terri

Extremely interesting web page! We just recently purchased a JRT, and we absolutely adore her. Her name is Madison, and she is just 12 weeks old. We have previously owned American Pit Bull Terriers, but - due to moving, we have had to accept a new, smaller breed. The Jack Russell Terrier was the perfect choice. Madison spends the majority of her day chasing our cat, Logan, who is trying to adapt to the newest addition to the family. Can't wait to check in to the site later. Loving our JRT in Virginia!!

We have two puppies - both 4 months old, named Chewy and Tess. You couldn't ask for a better pair of high energy power houses. After several months of research, we choose the Jack Russell breed for pets, mainly because we have the time needed, and didn't want a boring pillow-type dog. After some Jack proofing of the back yard (with their help!), everybody is happy as can be. Jack proofing was easy because they showed me all the weak areas in the fencing and gates, and I fixed them.

We have a wonderful J-R ... Daegan is a petite female, who loves to police our home and yard. We bred her 3 months ago, and she delivered 4 beautiful puppies. I wouldn't call her hyper, but she is definitely the boss. I forgot to mention that now that the puppies are 5 weeks old, Daegan and our cat, Ringo, take them out into the yard for recess! Ringo and Daegan work together with the pups, and they all get along beautifully. Daegan is a long-legged rough-coat, and the daddy is a long-legged smooth-coat. The pups are tan and white with beautiful markings. I just advertised them and will hate to part with them! I recommend a J-R to anyone who wants a smart, loving pet with a great sense of humor.

Hello to all,
I must say that I love your website, I am a new Jack Russell owner. My husband and I were adopted by Jack, on New Year's Day this year. I had been trying to convince my husband Tom to let me get another companion for our first dog - Bubba, whom we have adored for almost 2yrs.( Bubba is a Minature Pinscher.) I had wanted a Jack Russell for a while so when his ex-owner brought him by to interview us I fell in love, he was everything I ever wanted in a Russell. So "Jack" came to live with us. He is 8 mos. old and is a ultra smooth coat with black and brown on his face one eye has color and the other doesn't he also has ticking showing through his bright white coat. He is my little Wishbone I've always wanted. I love both of my dogs dearly, I hope everyone can have a little furry buddy to make your life brighter, and remember to always treat them kindly, they are God's little creatures and we are blessed to have them to share with us.
God Bless Animals.

We have a 1 1/2 year old JRT named Minnie. She had big shoes to fill, because we always had German Sheps, and never thought of our family as "little dog" owners. After owning Minnie for over a year, I can't imagine owning "Big Dogs". Minnie has brought so much joy into our lives. She is part of the family and runs the house!!! She is a little dog with a "Big Dog" attitude. That is why we love her so much. Her favorite part of the day is waking us up, and also to greet us when the bus drops us off in the afternoon.
P.S. We love your website!

Hi there. I've been having a lot of fun reading entries in the guestbook, and of course, I have to brag about OUR two darlings... Daisy is two years old, and has a smooth coat, and long legs. She weighs 20 pounds, is very gentle natured and has the most beautiful sloe eyes you've ever seen... Rose is one year old, and has a rough coat and long legs. She weighs 12 pounds and is a little hellion.
I have found myself relating to comments from lots of other people--they sleep with us, they growl if you have the nerve to move in the middle of the night, they love swimming, and they love to chase small animals! We love them and never get tired of watching them play together. We are so glad that we own two of the best dogs in the world!

I am so happy that I finally found a web site all about JRT's!! I have been looking for one for quite some time now. I have a 5 year old JRT ... and boy does he have a mind of his own. He does so many strange things, it's almost like he is a real person!! He sings, dances, argues, and sometimes he even farts!! He also is spoiled rotten!! He hardly eats dog food at all! I just give him table scraps, although I know that isn't good for him. Still, he is in better shape than anyone in my house. Anyone out there wondering whether or not to get a JRT, do it! It will probably be one of the best decisions you will ever make!!

My J-R now has a new way of playing with my mum's J-R (her brother), so now grabs his collar and shakes him and drags him along. The best thing is: my mum's J-R just lets her do it. This is, by the way, the best web site for J-Rs!

My wife and I recently aquired a short-legged JRT. This ten week old puppy has brought so much joy to our lives. Although Toby has also brought alot of havock. We have had quite a time trying to house train Mr. Toby! Our JRT has already shown us that he is very intelligent and independent. If any one has any ideas on how to inhance the potty or house training please e-mail me at saseitz@flash.net.
Thank you, A JRT lover,

I have a 3 yr old Parson Jack Russel, and I swear in a previous life he was a human, and maybe a cat in another. Instead of us training him, I'm pretty sure he trained us. He is very intelligent, the only thing he WON'T do, is come when called. I would love to get a female for Max to play with. I'll never own another breed.

I have a Jack Russel by the name of Kasper ... he is 9 mnths old, and has been a hand full. For last 3 mnths he has been going to K9 training here in South Africa, and well you can not believe the difference. He loves every minute of training, and I hopefully in a years time, will be taking him to shows. Kasper is a big "actor" and we love him even more every minute since he became a well-trained K9 citizen.

This is a great site. We have a four year old female, Nellie, who had a litter two years ago. My sister, Vickie, has her son, Reggie. We are going to breed Nellie again this spring and keep a pup ourselves. She is the greatest dog I've ever owned. They are so loving, and a JRT is the best entertainment value ever. We are moving to a new house on seven acres in the Sierra foothills this summer, so they will have lots of room to romp and play.

Hi. - I have a one year old Jack Russell named Jersey, and she definately thinks she is a human being. She hides at bedtime if she knows she cannot sleep in a bed with me. She sits in my arms like a child, and refuses to eat dog food. She is the friendliest dog anyone can image, and definately smart beyond belief. I am starting her on flyball soon because she cannot leave a ball alone. She is definately the joy of my life.

I just 'bout died when I saw the JRTs in the snow when I first surfed in, and I love all the pictures you have. I've had two JRTs. My first was named Max, but I decided to give him away because my family lived in a house without a closed in backyard, and I didn't think it was fair for him to have to stay inside all day while I was in school. So I gave him to a nice family that my mom knew who had a farm. Now that I have a farm, I've had another one named Chase (he likes to chase tennis balls) since Christmas of '97 ... a present from my parents. He a brown and white rough-coat. Sweet, but a real wild child. Living on a farm with woods and lakes, I can never keep him clean. My Austrian Sherpard - Britt, and Chase love to be let loose to roam, but when I do, they will stay away 'til dark, so it worries me. Well, I love your website and all the pics'. I'm thinkin' of sending you some pics of Chase ... if I can get him to stand still long enough just to get a shot. Well. later.

I am a 4 year old smooth-coat JRT, and am obsessed with my ball, my female owner, and yes, like so many others, I dive under those bedcovers the moment I get a chance. I also would like to say it drives me crazy when my female owner is doing anything without me. I try to let her know by whining, growling, then barking in a demanding tone, but she seems to not understand that she is being summoned to pay attention to me. I am a very passive and compliant JRT, which is unusual, but I do get pushed over the edge when my human children bother me, or the others of canine persuasion almost step on me. I share my kingdom with an annoying smooth coat fox terrier that has moved away 2X and is back to stay, and a montserous Great Pyrenese, and an older, yet passive like myself, golden retriever. I would really like to get a chance at the 2 rat, 2 hamsters, or even the 2 guinea pigs my people seem to think they need. Why do they insist on all these other creatures when they have a pet as committed and wonderful as myself? I dare say they must have an obsessive disorder of some sort! Great fun sharing.

I think that my J-R is the best thing ever. We rescued her about three months ago. She is now much more confident and has finally learnt to play with her brother. My parents have had the brother since a puppy, so he's very good natured. She shakes him by his collar and also his tail, which doesn't seem to both him. He gets his own back by chewing her ears. Great site! ... my favourite bit is Jasper's advice page.

Our family owns a one year old JR -- his name is Wishbone. Thanks to a wonderful breeder, Wishbone fits in perfectly to our family. We have 2 children ages 5 and 8 plus two cats--sometimes this combination isn't always the best for a J-R. But thanks to our good breeder she picked a pup with the disposition to handle our young kids and cats. A good J-R breeder will care about this!
Wishbone is a broken, short-legged, cropped tail terrier. He loves to sleep under the covers of by daughters bed. He also runs with my husband. He's a great dog!

My long-awaited Jack Russell entered our home two weeks ago, and has already won our hearts and wrapped us all around her paws. She is as intelligent as I had hoped, but with even more character than I had expected. My little pup does not yet know that she is only small, and is willing to take on everyone and everything. She and our new kitten Callymica are the best of friends and we are looking forward to spending many years and activities with Jemma and the rest of our animals

Hi, I just got my new addition 2 days ago. I was on vacation in Fl., the weather was bad, I was looking for something to keep me busy. Guess what? A little 9 week old, ultra smooth, small, baby girl joined my family. She is half face black, half face white, two black spots on her back, and a tail which is black at the base and white at the tip! Beautiful!! I am not a mom, am I? This is my second JR, my first baby was taken from me (hit by a car) a year and half ago. I love the breed, Anybody thinking about it go for it. They are lots of energy!!!

After being a lifelong dog owner, I had no idea that any animal could have the energy, personality, and most of all the inquisitiveness of our most recent family member. Rollie's Red Molly is a 9 month old female JRT, completely white in color, with brown ears. Molly has made inroads to training her humans, and is somewhat dismayed by their slow learning curve. Perhaps with a modicum of perserverance, Molly might achieve her aspirations of making her humans the smartest and best behaved on the block.

Great Web Site! We parent a 1 year old JRT named George. He is very funny, full of energy and extremely smart. However, I do have a concern. He's brave when it comes to barking and chasing people but when a thunderstorm rolls in he freaks. He begins to yawn and his whole body shakes. Is this normal? I try to comfort him by holding him close, letting him know I'm there and everything is okay.

I have just become acquainted with jack russell terrior's.
I GOT Willie in October, and haven't had a moment's peace.
He is adorable, and i love him, but he wants to play ALL the time.
I have a 6 year old Calico cat that doesn't get much rest either. I hope
the time will come they will be friends ... but not yet. He is
adorable, and will certainly keep me active this summer.

My mother has a beautiful Jack Russell called-- surprisingly, Jack. He is now nearly three years old and is a very lovable and friendly little chap. In fact, he has a little habit of putting his paws on my shoulders and nuzzling me. He is truly a comfort to my mother.

Hi, i am the owner of Spike... acquired her 6 yrs. ago,
before i knew anything at all about them. Consequently, she is a
jr with "undesirable qualities" ... at least physically.
We all love her despite this, and greatly admire her spunk
and her "Terrierness" ... it did take a while to teach her
her "manners" but she's caught-on pretty well now, and
we wouldn't trade her for a so-called "perfect" jrt!

I am the proud owner of a 10 month old Jack Russell Terrier named Buffy, "The Vampire Slayer", and boy does that name fit her. She is very rambuctious and noisy. She goes to doggy daycare everyday to my parents where she plays with 2 female Boxers, Katie Kate and Kandy Kane. Usually, when I go to pick her up, she has been cleaned up from playing in the mud or has dug at least two holes that day. She just successfully completed Obedience Class, and after her initial panic at being the smallest dog there, she became the "life of the party".

While I'm trying to consume a hot dog, and make this entry into the guestbook ... there are our four Jacks - Minnie, Gizmo, Bett Boop, and Kip, all sitting up perfectly - looking famished. Minnie is even licking her lips - just a little extra touch. Well there goes my hot dog. These Jacks have us completely trained - and what a joy it is. There's two litters of puppies here in the living room.
Occasionally one mother will want to look at the other's pups - some discrepancy and always a solution. Their eyes have just opened - there will be monsters on the loose soon. They bring us more happiness everyday. Will need psychiatic help if anything ever happens to them. Sandra Placco, Franklin,

rough coats rule! ...
Stonewall Jackson Russell came to rule our house in July 1995. He finished, but did not graduate from puppy obedience school, because he would not stay!, sit!, or heel! ... he barked at all the other puppies on the first day of puppy school.
He has been a joy. We swear he is smarter than we are-- if he only had an opposable thumb. He's working on it. He is cute and very affectionate and loves to play tug.

I have a 1 1/2 year old Jack named Nelson (named after the great British Admiral - because he has a black patch over one eye). He is my first Jack, but I must say, he is great. The only complaint I have is that there don't seem to be too many pure black & white Jacks like Nelson. I love the breed.

My two most favorite things in the world, other than my husband are: Jilly and Bubby. Jilly is a 14 month old JRT and Bubby is a 14 week old JRT. We just purchased Bubby for Jilly so that she will have a companion. I think that was the best thing we could ever do for her! She loves him to DEATH! She is fixed, and we plan to have Bubby fixed also. The best thing about Jilly and Bubby is that they are identical in the placement of their spots and they are both tri-color, however Jilly's spots are tan, her entire head is tan, and her face has black ticking. Bubby is just the opposite. His spots are black, his head is black, and he has tan ticking on his face! And they are from two totally seperate breeders. They are so similar, and yet so different. My jacks are so fun to be around. Of course, always full of energy, yet very loving and affectionate. I wouldn't trade them for the world!!!

JRTs are the best. My jrt passed away on Jan. 5th 1998, after 20years of being the light of my life. Yes-- that is twenty (20) years! I just wanted to let others know that they will never get the unconditional love from a human that you will get from a jrt. They are very loyal and smart and mosst of all, loving. ENJOY your jrt, they become a member of the family before you know it! I hope to get another at some time in the future. Have fun.

I have a 6 month old Jack Russell named Cloe, and she is the light of my life. She's a city dog, and loves to play with children especially. She has changed my life, and I couldn't be happier with her. She has a brown and black face with a cow-like, brown and white coat, she's beautiful. Her ears stand up straight, unlike other Jack Russells; and now, when people see her they can't help but say "Yo quiero Taco Bell". I don't think her feelings get hurt, she's a tough little nut. Jack Russells Rule!

After searching for a short hair and short legged JRT for 1 1/2 yrs., I finally found mine. His name is Little Bob, and he is the greatest. We have only had him home a week, and we are just totally in love. I'd never been much of a dog lover until now. My kids couldn't be happier. I love to watch his little tail wag in the morning when the kids wake up.
I'm so glad you have this site!

I have a 3 year old JRT named Tuffy, who is absolutely wonderful. He's my child. He loves his brother and sister very much (humans, that is). He gets very angry if he doesn't get to sleep with his big brother at night. He thinks he's human as well. He is a beautiful short-legged short-haired, white, with tan marks jrt. He has brought much joy and entertainment to our lives. A bit hyper at times, but what the hey?! You can't help but love them!!!! I wouldn't trade him for the world. He really should have been a movie star, like most JRT's!!!!! We love your site!

We just recently got our first JRT ... she is 4mths old. Her name is Beanie. She looks like a Maybeline ad ... eyeliner on one side and none on the other. She is very smart and already crate-trained. JRT's are very interesting animals. We already had a dog, she is "mutt" breed and we had the new pup for about 4 hours when we decided to introduce them ... the JRT was very upset at first. It was really funny-- we tried not to laugh, but we have had the "mutt" (Shelby) for two years. She came around finally, and they are really great friends, although the JRT tends to be a bit aggressive with the "mutt" who only outweighs the JRT by about 45lbs. They are both females. Thanks for letting us sign you're book!!!

We are owned by two female JRTs (devil-dogs), mother - Mollie, and daughter - Mary Kate. Each is black and white, smooth-coated and long-legged. They also look like someone has finger-painted them with spots ... or someone sneaked a small dalmation into the mix.
Mom and daughter allow us to share our bed, sofa, chairs, house, etc. with them. They are very affectionate and very protective, with Mollie guarding everything from everyone and Mary Kate trying to leave with whomever enters the premises.
We enjoy our girls immensely and may, one day, have another litter, providing we can bring ourselves to allow the babies to go to good homes.

Hi, we have a fantastic jrt called: Jack (very original); although he isn't, and he is 9 months old. This if the first time we have had one, and adore him immensly. The children love his fun race-around the House episodes, and we have permanently lost our bed-- heaven forbid if we try to move him (we are growled at in no uncertain terms). What was life like before a jrt (must have been dull).

*from Elyse, our daughter: -- our dog also like to howl at and answer the phone (we have one at floor level). he sits and listens to the voices with a head tilt. he loves his fluffy toy cat, much to our cat Rastus's disgust.

I don't know what we did before we got Murdock! He's somewhere between one and two years old and we've had him since February. He's definitely a deaf J-R. The people who sold him to us (for only $150) failed to mention that he was deaf! We don't care. We love him even more. After reading and talking to people about J-R's, we were a little leery of getting a J-R. My husband and I are both at work most of the day, and our two children at home are in high school and college. Everyone loves Murdock! All the little children in our neighborhood think he's Wishbone on television. So far, he's just happy to be with us, and is definitely a lap dog. Yes, he loves to run and take us for walks, but is really a very calm dog.
Would love to hear from others who have a deaf J-R.!

Our Jack, Titch (named after the 3-legged Jack in James Harriott's Dog Stories) has been the greatest joy for us. He's 2.5 yrs old and has 7 acres of walnut orchard to run on... He goes to work daily with my wife Nicole, who is a Geologist. He's very patient with our 3 cats, and loves our new baby chicks. I purchased a Jack Russell Terrier for my birthday two years ago this June. He has been a real delight and of course a handfull, which was a life saver as my husband was home sick, and he (Milton) just seemed to be the ticket to cheering up my husband, even when he didn't want to be. Milton is a Very smart and loveable little dog. He has a very frisky personality and doesn't seem to like little kids at all, but luckily we do not have any living with us. I named him after the person who helped me find him. Her name is Marilyn Tilton, so I took the M from her first name and took the T off her last name and put the M next to the ilton. The name suits him. His natural sister lives a few doors away from us and they visit often. Your site is a delight and I will visit it often. Milton has this LOVE of water from the garden hose, he has tried to eat a few hose nozzles over the past two years. He will be 2 on April 10th.

Have had our JRT pup Ripley home for a week now and she is doing great. She is the fourth dog in the house but the first JRT. Loves to play and eat and sleep in about that order. Bentley (Ben for short) says hello. I'm 14 weeks old and I am learning to go potty outside. I like my owners a lot, actually I own them but they don't know it yet. I live in a big house but they don't let me go everywhere yet. I go for short walks close to the house. But the fun part is when they take me to camp, and I can run untill I'm exhausted, and without a leash too! Well I'm tired after a big day and I'm going to bed.

Love this site. I have a 3 year old JRT named Foster, who is about to get a human baby brother. Being the king of the castle, I'm not sure how he'll handle this new invader. He usually loves little kids. Foster is my 1st baby, and I wonder If anyone might have a similar situation?

I think your website is great! I am looking for some extensive info on JRT's. As I am thinking of getting one for my daughter's 1st b-day. I would like to know if they are good with children, what their disposition is like, and what the differences are between long legged, short legged, so on and so forth. I am willing to put money and training and TLC into the right kind of dog. your reply will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

It is a wonderful thing this guessbook. I became sooo nervous about my new little JRT we named Grumet. Books about these special little buddies should be writen by people like those in this guessbook as well as the professionals. If I had not found this page I would have been a worried wreck for nothing...
Anyone who reads this entry and would like to be my JRT email buddy please email me. Grumet is only 10 weeks old but he already has won my fond effections. Chrisi

My JRT is sleeping in my lap right now. But I wouldn't call her a lap dog by any means. Her name is Miss Tippy Toes. This fits her to well. I swear she looks like she is tip toeing through the tulips all the time. Her one fault is that her ears stand up. They will not lay down for anything. My Vet told me to try putting chewing gum on them but that has just gotten gum all over the house, JRT & people. My human daughter even had to go to school one day with gum on her face. There's nothing like having a JRT in the house to liven things up. I just wish I could talk my husband into several more. I don't understand why there are any other breeds of dog when the JRT is the best of All.

Hello. I have a JRT called Jack!
He's two and a half years old and is very lively. He is a long legged JRT and has "lemon" colouring. A very attractive dog. He is a very loving dog and loves to cuddle up in bed having had a busy day walking on the park. If anyone has a JRT and would like to tell me about him/her please E mail me.

We have just been adopted by Tess, a nine week old smooth-coat JRT. She is all white with a perfectly round spot at the base of her tail centered on her spine. We think that she will be short-legged, but she is our first JRT, and we're not quite sure what to look for. She is a real treat to have around the house, and she is quickly learning how to train us! We never suspected so much dog could be packed into such a small package! If you have any tips for us, we'd love to hear from you!

When Neal and I saw Pennie for the first time, we knew she was the one! She leaped right into the cradle of our arms looking for love and affection! The day that I (Stef) took Pennie home was so exciting! She was very shy the first two days, but after that she came out of her shell! Now, four weeks later Pennie has become very comfortable with her surroundings, maybe even too comfortable! Pennie is an extremely lovable, intelligent, and active puppy! JRT's are certainly fabulous pets, as I'm sure owners would agree!

We love this Website! We have two almost three year old JRTs (Ziggy and Harley) who are a brother and sister. They rule the house along with the people and cats that are in it. We had to laugh reading this site because our dogs also sleep under the covers of our beds every night. They have a very strange fascination with basketballs and garden hoses and love to chase birds and any other small creatures they can find. They are the most lovable pets in the world even though they sometimes drive us crazy with their barking and demands.

We are owned by a soon to be 5 yr old female. We also have an Australian Shepard & a Blue Heeler. Penny is a short-legged, smooth coat gal. She is fearless. She truly believes that she is just as big as the other two. I guess the funniest thing she does is to protect my 7 yr old daughter!
I can't even wake her up for school, unless Penny attacks me. Ha We love her! Oh yeah, she plays basketball too!

Riley bounded into our lives when he was 6 weeks old full of enthusiasm and mischief. He lives with Kodee, an Australian Shepard/Chow mix, China, a Rottweiler, Murphy, a Bassett Hound, and Gypsy, a Curly-coated Retriever. Until the untimely demise of Riley's cat, Sega, they were the best of friends. Riley loves to torment the bigger dogs. He and our other dogs are the light of our lives.

Katie will be 2 years old on April 24. She is in her 3rd heat & we are breeding her for the 1st time. The reason this is significant is that when my 15-yr-old son first approached about a JRT, I was firmly opposed -- but he talked me into it. Katie has been a joy and I have done a complete aboutface. Yes, there are trials with this headstrong breed but I wouldn't want it any other way.

We have just recently had the pleasure of sharing our lives and home with a lovable, bundle of energy JRT. Frasier is 10 weeks old. After just 2 short weeks, we don't know how we have lived without him.
We have heard of the trials and tribulations that are in store for us, but his special puppy love will more than make up for it. I take "Frasier" to work with me everyday, and did I mention I work in the Seattle area. He loves to meet new people, and he helps me reduce the stress of my work. I only wish that everyone could take their JRT to work with them.

My JRT's name is Elaine. She is a short legged tri colour 8 month old girl. We named her Elaine because she is really bossy (just like Elaine in Seinfield). Elaine's ears haven't flopped yet, so she looks a little weird. She loves being with people and we think that maybe JRT's are aliens that have come to take over households and eventually the world. Well, I am sure that JRT's have already taken over entire suburbs.

They are small, well manered, great with kids and most importantly they are cute. I have a tri-coloured female JRT, her name is Cindy. I got her when she was four years old. I absolutely love her!

I have the greatest JRT in the world, but of course, isnt everyone's the greatest? Mine is Chuck - the biggest chicken in town. He acts tough, but come close and he runs away screaming. It is definetly a sight. He is only 19 weeks old. He loves stuffed teddy bears, puppy cookies and sleeping under the covers with mom. His grandparents spoil him rotten. He looks exactly like Wishbone and little kids just go absolutely crazy when them see him. You would think that he was Santa Claus the way they act. Too cute. I have another JRT that my ex-boyfriend has, his name is Harley. He is crazy!!!! When he gets excited he starts to choke, and when he was a puppy, we used to ask him if he swallowed a pidgeon, they always sat outside out window. To this day, he still does it. I am so glad that other JRT owners can talk about their favorite babies!!!

I have always wanted a small inside dog, however, the kids came first with their "wants". On April 3, 1998, I was put off again by my husband's desire to keep me company during the day. He purchased a "Amazon Parrot" (Katie). In the store, Katie liked me but once she came home with us, well, things changed. I was suppose to spend 3 hours a day talking to her, petting and bonding. After 3 days, I had been bit & attacked and found no pleasure in this special gift. She loves the children who are at school 8 hours a day and my husband who is at work 11 hours a day, 6 days a week. I decided it was my turn. I went on a mission for a puppy! Living in a small town I never thought that I would find what I was looking for but I did. Our local pet store had a JRT 6 weeks old. I didn't buy her at first; I decided to check out my opinions. After looking at small puppies the following day, I went back to our local store and purchased Miss Molly. She is white with a brown face and one small touch of brown on her side (kids say it's her birth mark). Miss Molly is now 8 weeks old. I have been trying to "housebreak" her but instead she's housebreaking me. I love her to death and she has given me exactly what I was looking for in a puppy. She's loving and smart and keeps the "parrot" in line. Anyone that can offer me any advice on training or interesting FYI tips, please let me hear from you. I want Miss Molly to be perfect in every way. Hopefully, my husband will come home with another bright idea that will give me the opportunity to purchase Miss Molly a play mate!

I have enjoyed looking through your site and reading some of the stories. I don't have a JRT yet, but am looking for one. Rescue occured to me from a locally published newspaper for animal rescue. I have 2 cats and am afraid JRT's may be too aggressive. Am I correct in my assumption? I guess I would need to adopt a more passive (than aggressive) Jack Russell. I will also be checking with breeders, but if I can rescue one of these little dogs (preferably a female) and have it fit in our household, that would be terriffic. Thanks for your attention. Sincerely,

I think I am the only owner of an introverted JRT. We've only had him 1 week and he's 5 1/2 months old. His name is Jasper as well. He was kept in an outside pen his whole life and is afraid of everything. We are working on getting him to be a "puppy" and have made some progress. We have lots of love to give him and that along with patience will win him over, I'm sure. He seems very smart and caught on to the potty training in one day. My 12 yr. old son thinks he's the greatest! I tend to agree. We also have a 2 yr. old female golden retriever and the 2 are not best friends but one stays inside and the other outside so they don't interact too much. If anyone else has a JRT who is not hyper or outgoing, please let me know. I'm feeling like the lone ranger here.
Love your website by the way!

A gentlemen in his 80's is looking for a home for his Jack Russel Terrier, Princess. She is five or six years old ...
He only wants to give Princess to someone who would really love her and give her the attention she deserves.. Since this gentlemen is getting on in years and is not well, he would like to know that Princess would have a good home.
Princess is used to being on a seventy five foot run so a home with a backyard would be what he would like for her.
Princess is very sweet and friendly. I am writing this note for him in hopes that someone will be interested. Please E mail in return if you or someone you know might be interested. P.S. Princess lives in central New Jersey

I need a bit of help! I am a first-time JRT owner and couldn't take just one ... no, I've got two -- a brother and sister who are now 8-1/2 weeks old. I'm not sure how the training is going because they seem to be of one mind. Had to go to a leash because I almost lost them in the woods, so free-rein is out of the question until I get the invisible fence installed when they're four months old. I call one and one comes and then the other one comes because the first one came ... can't tell if they're getting it. Also, is it too late to start crate training? They sleep in the crate, but it's not locked up, and they eat outside the crate. Potty training is going slowly -- I take them outside often, but they whine to go inside to use the papers. I'm terrified of doing anything wrong and permanently scarring their little psyches. Brie and Buddy are just adorable, but more like sticks of dynamite with hair. I love them to pieces and want what's best for them. Does anyone know how to train two at a time. ? I'm frantic about not wanting to permanently scar their little psyches for life. All of the comments seem to indicate everyone else's JRT's were perfect from the start -- how do I get mine that way? E-mail me anytime and in advance, thanks!

I have a three year old JRT, named Fossey, who is incredibly long-legged. I've seen a few like this before, but not in a long time. Both of her parents had fairly short legs. Most everything else about her is jack russel-like. She stands close to 16 inches. Does anyone else have a dog like this?
We don't mind the fact that she kept growing, she's still a wonderful dog, and a great friend to our children!

Great website!..... Alex, aka: Little White Dog, Alexander Graham Puppeeee, Alex Ahente.... is my 3 year old long-legged short-haired best friend. We met on the streets on NY when he was 6 months old, and have been inseparable ever since. We share our home with Schwartz, a 17 year old Maine Coon cat, who rules the roost (believe it or not). Al and I have driven Xcountry together.... ask him about the time he locked me out of the car in Badlands National Park!
I would love to get him a sister, but i don't know what they would do to my apartment. Anyone with advice on larger families, please feel free to let us know what you think!... Look forward to hearing from you.

I am a 23 year old recent college graduate. I have wanted a Jack Russell since '94 but wasn't able to get one because the place I lived at school didn't allow pets and I wasn't about to get one and leave him at home, just seeing him when I visited my parents. Three weeks ago, thanks in no small part to my wonderful girl-friend, I adopted Stevie in Durant, Oklahoma. He is without a doubt the most perfect breed of dog for me, and more specifically, the most perfect dog. I couldn't be happier with him.

Who wants to go to heaven when heaven is right here-if you don,t believe me just as Chance and Radar. They tell it like it is in between bites of rat, squirrel, cat,and other assorted furry critters. McNuggets is a must treat, and dog bisquits from the bank teller a matter of course in a full day! Don't even think about keeping them otherwise occupied when the mailman/garbageman makes the round. A personal greeting is top of the list for correct dog behavior. One trial a month is about all mom and dad can stand.
We're broke and worn out but the dogs are happy-what more can I say!!!!
If you've never been to a trial or playday-GO! There's more to these little guys than meets the eye. YES TO JRTCA ... NO! TO AKC! ... 'Nuff Said! ... Love you guys!
