The Jack Russell Terrier
GUESTBOOK
May and
June '98
My Monty Magic 2yr old JRT, is the coolest dog around. He chases cats, mice, rabbits, squirrels anything that moves that isn't a fellow dog companion! Enjoys his belly being rubbed, treats and lots of love and attention. Had him just over a year from a rescue centre. Can't see us ever being without him. Love this page will visit it regularly. JRT's are simply the best!

We have a wonderful one year old JRT named Patches. He's our son's best buddy. He recently graduated from training, with honors, of course. We enjoy the antics of our JRT including his hyperness, jumping abilities and most of all, his very loving disposition!!!!! When my son comes home from school, Patches is always at the door waiting to greet him. What a welcome home!!

We have a wonderful eight year old JRT named Patch. We bred her six months ago. The pregnancy was as exciting as anything we'd ever experienced. The puppies kicked so hard, that when she finally had all 6, she looked more relieved than anything. Unfortunately, we lost two at birth. We did however give one to my sister and being the tender hearts we are kept the other three: Ringo, Punkin, and Freckles. We will never own another breed.

Huntsville, Ontario - CANADA - Sunday, May 03, 1998 at 20:32:21 (PDT)
We adopted our JRT - Wendy, from an animal shelter in Oct.'97. She had some problems, and had been sent back to the shelter 2 times before we saw her pretty face from behind her bars. I had been looking for a dog to adopt for about a year, and as soon as I saw those eyes, I knew she was coming home with me. She was on medication to help her go to the bathroom. Whoever had her either didn't know how to housebreak a dog or didn't care,as a result the poor thing didn't know how to go. With a lot of PATIENCE and PRAYERS she slowly learned the art of going potty. (I'm trying now to teach my 2 yr. old son) It's been a lot of work but she is now the happiest dog I've ever seen. She loves my kids, the cat (the cat doesn't like her though) and she has started a "protective" kind of thing that wasn't there when we first got her. I can't imagine us ever owning any other dog but a JRT. She helps chase our groundhogs too!

Hi... we have a short-legged, broken coat J-R named Chuck. And believe us, he looks like a Chuck. We can't beleive how smart he is. He is so smart we caught him trying to open the fridge! He was sitting in front of it pawing the side of the door. J-R's are great. I energy, high fun, and high jumps!

Jonty is my 3 month old JRT (I believe the T stands for TERROR). He has already learnt to sit, but refuses do demonstrate to others, who think I'm just a doting mother exaggerating the achievement of my offspring!
He has also perfected the art of permanently attaching himself to the jowls of my parent's benevolent labrador, using only his teeth!
This JRT ownership has already become an addiction!

Who needs kids when you have a J-R, or two. We have a 3yr old black & white male, Jack, who looks a lot like Nipper, and a 2 1/2 yr old brown & white male, Tom, who we call "Tommy The Bull." They're the greatest! We wouldn't be caught without either of them. They are our "boys".
As our vet refers to J.R.s - they are the 12lb dog with a 100lb attitude!
Here's to J.R. lovers everywhere!

My wife and I have 2 Jack Russells with the intention of breeding more. Our boy (he prefers to be called a man), Beau, is a three year old tan and white broken coat and our little girl - Amber is a 1 year old Tri coloured rough coat. Beau is an Australian Champion show dog, and Amber is nearly half way towards her championship. Beau is so good at catching mice, rats and snakes (mainly deadly browns) that people ask us if they can use him to clear out their garages (Beau has no objections). Would like to here from any other J-R owners from anywhere in the world. Cheers and happy Jack Russelling.

We have a 3 month old puppy named Dexter. He has totally taken over our lives. He is the silliest, most energetic dog we've ever seen! The only time he is still is when he's asleep. We wouldn't trade him for anything! (But we'd like hints from other JRT owners who also have pet birds. Help!!)

Your site is adorable! I have a 1 year old Jack Russell named Gage. I have been searching for information on health problems in J-Rs, and came across your page. If you have any information on any health problems such as seizures, or something similar to seizures, please let me know. (Our vet hasn't been much help). Gage is on Potassium Bromide now, but his "episodes" haven't decreased in occurrence. I will greatly appreciate any info you have to offer. Thanks for your time, I love your site!

I am the VERY PROUD owner of a 4 1/2 month old jrt named Nikki, after years of never having a dog my girlfriend suprosed me with one for Christmas (which happens to be Nikkis' Birthday). After "shopping" around for a good breeder we lucked out and found this little ball of joy, Evrywhere we go all we here is "What a cute little dog". While small for the breed we are hoping that Nikki stays tiny for the breed, while at the same time retaining his light markings.

Love your site! We've had Madison, our wonderful little JRT, for about 2 years. We can't imagine life without her, she's a sweet beast. She'll be coming into heat within the next few weeks and we would be interested in breeding her. We're looking for a shortlegged, smooth coat this time around. Please e-mail us with JRT information. Please include details about his temperment.

We got Jackson for our son for his 9th birthday. He has a broken coat with three black spots. We had no idea how smart these dogs are. Every morning when Brett gets ready for school and Jack' hears the backpack getting zipped, he starts to bark and grab at his pant legs, and when it's time for school to get out, he is patiently waiting at the door. I sure didn't realize that dogs could tell time!

EXTRA!!! EXTRA!!! Just in, Ollie just had her puppy!!!! My family and I would like to announce the birth of "Baby-X" ... she was born on Monday, May 4, 1998, at roughly 12:30 AM. Ollie had a few problems - and we had to assist, but for the most part, both the mother and daughter are doing well. We thought she would have more pups, but ... unfortunately, she only had one. Which, by the way, we are going to keep. She is mostly white bodied, with three brown spots (one at the start of the tail, one on the left center of her back, and one right behind her left ear), and her face has a full mask, with black rings around her eyes, and with a white stripe right between her eyes. She is the CUTE-est thing!!! ... We love to watch the "sleeping" positions she gets into. HA HA!!! We are still debating on a name for "Baby X", but my wife is leaning towards Peepers - since she peeps instead of whimpering. But she is only a week old, so we are still thinking. Would loike to thank all those who responded ... the info was greatly appreciated. Here's to more pups in the future! Love the JRT breed!!!

Hello JackRussell lovers! ... I have a 1 yr.old J-R, and he is the best dog there ever will be. I have owned a lot of different dogs - from Chows to poodles. And none of them come close to matching his loyalty, his friendship, and his intelligence! He is 95% white and 5% tan, and has a lot of spots under all that hair. His ears are the 5% tan. He is part long hair and part short hair... being that his dad is a long hair and mom short.
He is missing a toe on his back right foot, and loves to chew it. If you ever find a dog more loyal, friendlier, or smarter. Please send him to me!
Thanks. DOG LOVER

I just wanted the world to know that I will be getting my JRT puppy on May 19. I have been waiting her arrival for at least a year and I was so excited when she was born. I have visited her every week of her life (a short 7 weeks) and it has been fun watching her and her siblings change. Her name is going to be Zipper, and she is a pistol. She is white with a brown and black right ear and a brown and black left eye. She is going to have rough or broken hair. My 13 year old Shih Tzu has no idea that this is his last week before the energy bomb hits. The Hairy Princes (my three male cats) are in for it too. I'm getting the back yard fenced in so we all can have some quiet from time to time. Well, I have a lot of preparing to do so see ya later!

I have a JRT called Jack. He is my little baby, and I love him to bits. I annoy all my friends by talking about him constatntly. He is white and tan, and I got him from a dog rescue centre. He was really ill - as someone had abondoned him, and a lorry driver found him collapsed on the edge of a motorway, dying. I have had him for 3 years and 3 months, and i couldnt imagine life without him... He has his own little strange personality and has a crinkly forehead when anyone says 'car' to him .... awwwww! I have wrote this so that i can go and tell him that he is now on the Internet - he will be made up.

We have had our 9 wk old male JRT pup BoZo for a week now.
Aptly named as a total clown. I've never seen a dog that could go from a full sprint to sound asleep in 3 seconds. We have always had large breeds and BOZO is definitely a
trip!! If you want to own a dog that is a perpetual puppy, the JRT is the way to go. Never seen a pup that learned so quickly but at the same time has such a stubborn streak.

I just adopted a seven month old Jack Russell Terrier. This is a
first for me. Cooper and my 7 year old Lab - Cody, are buddies already.
Every morning at 6:30 I take them both out (potty training for Cooper). Feed them, and subsequently watch them chase each other around the kitchen island. Cooper has added such vitality to my aging Cody. It's amazing how they get along. My kids adore him and so do I! He's all Terrier, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I picked up my JRT puppy on May 19. She is going to have a rough coat which is mostly white with color on her right ear and left eye. Her name is Smokey Mountain Zipper, and she's 8 & 1/2 weeks old. She's done a lot in the past couple of days. I get swarmed by people when I take her out because she is so cute and outgoing. We went to the pet store and she picked out her own toys and chewies. She prefers pig's ears and lamb's legs. We visited friends and family. So far, she has met seven cats and one dog. She sleeps a lot. Right now she is underneath the couch totally out of it (and there's a thunderstorm plus hail going on outside). I haven't decided what her "career" is going to be but her mom and dad are into hunting and racing. She'll just have to grow a bit more and show me her stuff. Bye!

Lovely site. I've been spending my lunch times surfing for JRT information. My own little darling JRT, named MG (after another great British marque), is now 5 months old, and constantly surprises me with new behaviours. I think if you are patient, and loving, then you could never abandon a JRT ... never. I love mine so much! I think I'm a JRT addict because I'm considering finding MG a companion ...

I am a first time owner of a wonderful, lovable, and spunky J-R puppy. Her name is Maggie Mae, and we purchased her Dec.9th. She is now 9 months old. Unfortunately, she was deaf at birth, and we did not know it at the time of purchase. But we would not give her up for any thing. Her disabillity makes her even smarter because she has to compensate for her deafness. If there is anyone else that has a deaf J-R, please e-mail me. I'd like to find out everything I can about what is available [classes, special collars., ec] for my Maggie.

We have just purchased a Jack ... he is adorable but no angel! He is from the Foxwarren Line, and I was interested in learning more about the pedigrees. We will possible stud him out when he is of age. By the way his name is: Highland Bay Teddy of Brouillettes Creek, ("Teddy").

We have two bundles of JRT... Digger and Lucy. Digger is nine years old and festively plump. But still rather active and becoming more vocal especially since we got Lucy a fews ago. Both are great dogs.. we love the breed.

there is no other breed of dog for me! Rosie.O. and Mitzi are

the kid in me. They are such little clowns! There is never
a dull moment around our house!

We got our JRT the day after Easter, when we had to put our sweet beagle, Lucy, to sleep. The very next day I found an ad for a JRT and responded. I had no idea what a JRT was like, except from Eddie on "Frasier." I had heard that Eddie was extremely hyper. But when I met Jack (his name was Max, but we changed it), I fell in love. He was not hyper, but definitely full of energy. He lightened our hearts immedediately and helped soften the blow of Lucy's death. He has brought more joy into our lives than I ever thought possible. He is the smartest, cutest, more adorable dog in the world! There is nothing about him that isn't perfect. Are we in love? YES! Jack has stolen our hearts. We are now completely "into" JRTs. Who wouldn't be? Now I want to find a "wife" for Jack so she can have puppies and we can have another dog just like Jack! Jack is a long-legged, short-tailed, smooth haired dog with one ear up and one ear down. He is mostly white, with black and tan spots. People even stop me on the street to say how cute he is. We couldn't have found a more perfect and loving dog anywhere. He sleeps with us (apparently a common trait) and is very much of a people dog. He is great and we thank God for him every day. Anyone near us who has a female who wants to have puppies, please get in touch with us. Jack is just a year old and would make a great father! We have just fallen in love with JRTs!

It's been a pleasure having a JRT in the family. We all love Frankie White, our JRT, which we've have had since Dec'97. He will be 9 mos old end of June. I have found that they are very stubborn dogs, however, they can also be very lovable. He is extremely messy and always into everything... but I wouldn't have it any other way.

My dog's name is Immah, she's a female J-R & she likes to get in trouble.
She's about a year old, and she still have some pee accidents. I crate train her
but she still does it inside of the house sometimes. She will usually tell me when,
but the other day I had some friends over and she got out of control, and she pee'd on
one of my friends' feet. Any ideas how can I make her stop?

I've had my JRT for exactly 6 days. Scooter was born April 7th, and is one of the cute-est most playful and affectionate dogs I've ever known. He insists on sleeping right between my husband and myself, and will wiggle his little body right in between us - no matter how little room is available. We're just crazy about the littly guy and treat him like he's our baby. The only problem we're having is with housebreaking. I put him out at least every hour ... after he wakes from his naps, but if I'm not fast enough, he'll go to the bathroom on the floor. I'm not sure what else I can do to get the message through to him. I'd appreciate any suggestions from other JRT owners who've mastered this task. P. S. -- I love all the stories on this site... they help clue me into what to expect from Scooter in the future.

We have a 19 mo. old JRT (smooth coat, short legged, shorter tail than most) named Quincy. He was given to us by a friend ... who acquired him from a friend in Maryland. After I had given up hope of ever having another dog in the house (bad experience with a Dalmation), Quincy dropped in on Dec 24th,1996 @ 1:30 AM. He was an early Xmas present to me from my wife (but he is and will remain her baby).

My name is Picasso, and I am the most mild mannered, loving, wants only to be held by everyone, tri-color bi-laterally deaf, Jack Russell. I am neutered, and I am looking for a companion to be my best friend for life. Would love to have a female Jack Russell of the same temperment to come join me at my home on Lake Lanier, just a little north of Atlanta, Georgia. I sometimes get scared at night and hide on the lower shelf in the kitchen pantry. If I had a friend, I would not get as scared when I am left alone. I love to play with my Teddy Bear, and would love to share it with the right dog. My owner is teaching me sign language, and tells me that I am amazingly smart. If you are someone interested in a long term commitment, please e-mail my master at the above address.
Forever happy,

Hi there!! My Jack Russell is named Biras. He is 13 months old, and he is from Galway, Ireland. We got him on August 12, 1997 and we have been so incredibly blessed because he is fun-loving and very playful (like most J-R's). He is white with brown markings around his eyes and ears, and he has a black spot by his cute little tail.
Before we have him neutered, my husband and I would like to mate him. If there is anyone who may like to help us in finding a female jr, please contact us at your earliest convenience. We have noticed that Biras is getting a bit "active" since the change in the temperature, and he would really appreciate having a girlfriend. HA! ...
If there is any female jr's in the New York area, please write to us by e-mail.
Thank you and God Bless.

We Have two JRTs, both black and white roughcoats. Our male - Pooh - is the sweetest, mellowest most loving guy in the world . He is 2 years old and has been the perfect dog.
Then we got Winnie... she is a six month old female, and is everything that you everheard about a Jack. She is a little devil and full of it. And, so cute you just love her to pieces. The problem I have is that she is a real barker. Has any one dealt with barking successfully. I would love some training tips on how to control her barking. Thanks, and we think that this is a really wonderful sight.

Last Feb., my parents gave us the most wonderful gift-- Bailey. Bailey was a smooth-coat low-rider (about 10 inches from sholder to floor) with the best personality I have ever known a dog to possess, and even more tenacity. She loved going to the lake and fetching sticks from the water ... it was her favorite way to spend a hot Arizona day. Two days ago, we went to the lake and she was having a ball-- getting every stick she could when she suddenly collapsed on the boat. My husband tried everything he could to bring her back to us, but we think she had a heart attack, and we couldn't save her. She was only two years old, and I am devastated. I am looking for a very short-legged female that is almost all white. I am willing to travel as far as California or Texas to get the right JRT. Please e-mail me if you have any info you would like to share. Thanks for the Great Page!

We rescued our male JRT from an angry Macaw that was not interested in being a snack. Those owners already had one JRT who could live peaceably with others, but not Pepper. Before that, he had a short stay on a boat, so we are actually the third owners. He has made our life very interesting. He likes to escape. Once or twice he has discovered what BUFO toads are ... (very poisonous!!!) Our free JRT has become an expensive little bundle of love. He likes to run through the house chasing the cat, Mr. Pudd, who is bigger than he is and has sharper teeth but no claws. They are not the best of friends, but seem to tolerate each other pretty well though. He weighs 16 pounds, has unusual markings and is bigger than most. His markings are those of the usual JRT plus a generous dose of black and brown ticking all over. Wish we had a picture we could insert (and the know-how of how to do it). Glad to find a site like this on the web. Would like to know how to do obedience training with a hard-headed dog like this one.

Yes we are a proud owner of a lovable J.R. puppie ... her name is Chloe, and she is just turned 6 months ... and she loves to jump eat and play hard.We made a purchase from a pet store ... she was so cute, it was love at first site. I myself have grown up with dogs, but on the other hand, my wife has never had a dog, so you could Imagine the energy of this little pup and my wife was going insane with Chloe biting, jumping, and just being a puppie. But, all and all, my wife has learned to love Chloe like if she was her own baby. I know purchasing a dog from a pet store is not always the best way ... you hear of puppie farms and bad conditions where they are bred. How can you tell if you are getting a quality anaimal? We purchased Anna - our Jack Russell, two years ago, along with
our rescued German Sheppard Rex, and four parrots ... there isn't
much chance of getting any peace and quiet around our home, but
we like it that way. Anna is a bright active (but not hyper)
dog, who bosses Rex around. She regularly steals his treats
to hide in my garden somewhere - never to be found again.
Rex doesn't seem to mind, as he enjoys her company. One thing
I have noticed is that Anna never sleeps alone ... if she can't
find a lap, she curls up with Rex. I wonder if this is
common among the JRTs? Anyway, she is a wonderful dog and we
couldn't be happier.

What a great site! ... WE are owned by a sweet little tri colored smooth coat JRT named Dixie Belle. She is 2 years old, an "outlaw" measuring 15" and 18+ lbs. She is the sweetest, loyal, loving, smart little puppy girl anyone could ever want! We travel by motorhome quite a lot, and she is at home no matter where we are! She is a great traveler. We do take her crate as she has been known to be naughty when she is bored (being left alone)... loves to shred paper... any paper... kleenex... bathroom tissue... She just loves being with us and we love having her! She loves company to drop in... she's sure they've come to see her! She isn't great with small children. She's in love with her Frisbee and squeaky fleece toys and doesn't want to share them. She is a great little watch dog and really quite well behaved! She is a "big dog" in a little dog's body.... absolutely fearless. Her best puppy friend is a 70 lb Chocolate Lab named Savannah. They play every day! Jacks are wonderful companions for people who want to spend a lot of time with their pets... Jacks need to run and jump and take walks, and play... fetch the stick.... chase the tennis ball... catch the Frisbee... they need attention... and love... and the rewards are outstanding! Just look into those dear little eyes and you'll see what I mean!

We have two insane JRT brothers (from different litters) named Udo and Fritz. Udo ended up tall and lean, and Fritz is short and stumpy. Jack's are the funniest, sweetest trouble makers in the world. Udo and Fritz know all the buttons to push and all the ways to kiss up when they've had too much fun. Both are mighty yard hunters with a gopher, field mice and squirels to their credit. I have a Jack Russell named Dexter Devon. He is 9 years old, and has not slowed down yet!! Those of you with house breaking concerns, I suggest: crate training. It is a very effective way to teach a puppy to go outside only!

We looked for 1 1/2 years to find our little treasure ... and boy was she worth the wait!!! Ginger is now a year and a half old, and is the most enjoyable dog that we have ever had. She acts as if she were one of our children. I guess in a way she is. She sleeps in between us in our bed. I can not imagine life without her.
This is really a neat site, keep up the good work!!!

We have three jrts, Rugby (male), Cricket (female), and Snooker (female- puppy). We love them all. Rugby loves to swim in the pool, and Cricket climbs trees! and Snooker- well, all she does right now is chew furniture ... not a very good trick! (but she's just 10 weeks old). I dont know what i'd do without them. This is the only breed i'll ever own!

I just love this web site!!!! ... We have a tri-colored Jack, his name is Dash Rip-Rock. He is the best dog we have ever had, hubby acts as if he is not attached, but I believe he is Dash's most loyal supporter, especially when he (Dash) decides to chew up a shoe or two!!!! We or I would love to get a female jack, but I have yet to find one that is a really good example of the breed!!! Our breeder is far away now, so if anyone knows of a good breeder in the Alabama, Mississippi, or Pensacola area of Florida, please drop me an e-mail. Keep up the good work with this web page!!!

My fiancee and I have a wonderful ten month old JRT. We got him when he was only two months old, needless to say everyone fell in love with him (By the way his name is Bailey). It is amazing how one little dog can bring so much fun and love but at the sametime find everything to get into. I must say he is the quirkiest little dog. He loves to lick everybody's face ... if he could, probably forever. We do have one problem though: his ears stand straight up, instead of flopping down. If anyone knows of a way to fix this please do e-mail us, thanks. We wouldn't know what we would do if anything ever happened to him. We are also looking for a female to breed him to if anyone is local or knows of one it would be greatly appreciated.

I just got a bay Jack Russel Terrier last week and we named it Tillie. She is soo cute. We already had a Bulldog named Rufus. We love him but he is getting really old so we got the puppy to help my brother if anything happens to Rufus. Anyway Rufus can't swim so we were hoping that we could get a dog that could swim in our pool. I didn't know that JRTs could swim 'till I got to the breeders and asked her. She said that she had never had the puppy in the water but all her JRTs could swim. Well a few days ago Tillie fell in the pool and wouldn't get out! We had to chase her and get her out! Well got to go! Bye!

I've wanted a JRT for about 2 years & last nigh I had the great luck of finding one I could afford to purchase. I'm sure my husband and I will greatly enjoy him. I'm still not sure what I will name him. At this time he & my husband are sound asleep in the recliner.
I will be house braking him as soon as I can, we started to work on this this morning. So far he has done well, no accidents.
Looking forward to some hints from anyone will to send them my way. Thanks CEW

We have a seven month old JRT her name is Shamrock, we call her Shammy. We've had a Mini-Pin for 11 years his name is Rocky. She takes charge of him and is extremely smart. We never thought that we would get another high strung dog but she takes the cake. Never a dull moment with her..sure keeps us alive and on our toes...still doing tricks for food and has a great personality..but is very "testy". We got her for Christmas and don't regret one moment. All you JRT fans out there...good luck...hang in there it gets better with age.

My 3 year old JRT just had her first litter 6 weeks ago.
I have enjoyed every minute of her pregnancy, birth and
watching the pups grow and develop personalities. She had
one all white (no ticking) female which I will keep; other
two are going to carefully screened homes - that is so
important. I have also agreed to take the pups back if it
doesn't work out, instead of them going to a shelter.
Anyone with experience with all white JRTs, please e-mail.

Hi Everyone!
There's nothing like being owned by a Jack Russell Terrier.
There are two at my house, mother and daughter. Their names
are Katie and Tess. Katie loves to have her tummy scratched
and to keep the back yard free of squirrels. Tess loves to
chase her tennis ball and will bring it back until your arm
falls off....then she will bring it again for you to throw
with your other arm! They sleep with me. How do two little
dogs hog an entire bed? Great web page! Don't forget to
support Russell Rescue and the JRTCA. Let's protect this
terrier!

I have a six month JRT named Jake. He is my first terrier and I wouldn't think of getting any other breed now. He is very loving, funny and smart. Also full of energy. My whole family takes turns babysitting him while I'm at work. He can sit, sit pretty, lie down, roll over and play dead. Delightfully devilsh. That's my dog Rosco. My son taught him to climb trees. Squirrels beware!! He also has quite a repartee of tricks...all the usual, plus jumping into my arms, running up my legs and doing a backflip off of my stomach, and rolling over and over and over until you would think he would be dizzy. He's six and keeps my other dog who is 18 frisky. Now I'm looking for a playmate for Rosco...a gal who is as winsome and sweet as he is. Know someone??

Brie and Buddy are now four months old and I am grateful to everyone who responded to my call for "help" back when they were about two months old. I've learned a lot since then and so have they. Brother and sister, Buddy is a smooth coat white with black spots, long legged, but chubby. He's become very possessive, has learned "kisses" instead of biting (most of the time) and is frantic for most of the attention. Brie is a tri-color broken coat, long legged and "petite" and has an attitude, kind of like "You talkin' to me? I mean, are you talkin' to me?" I love them to bits, but I wouldn't dare let them sleep in bed with me yet -- I'd be shredded! Mostly I've learned the hard way -- toys are now kept in a metal bucket (they chewed the wicker basket), collars have been replaced by harnesses since they were developing neck muscles like Arnold Schwarzeneger (sp?) and the halters are much easier on them, 13' retractable leads instead of regular leash because they do need to run without gagging. Potty training is progressing -- we all go out about every two to three hours, then we come back, then I take one out to finish and then I take the other out to finish. They were just "fixed," but hasn't slowed them down one bit. They don't bark when the doorbell rings and they don't let me know when they have to go out except by looking at the door, which is great if I'm right there. So, I hung a bell by the door and sometimes they hit it with their nose, and I come running. Most of the time it works! Some of the time they just want my attention, so I'm still working on that one. Training is successful with food treats -- force absolutely, positively does not work -- it's like having two stone statues. Love and patience, patience, patience is definetely required. Also, a squirt bottle filled with watered-down apple extract is the "weapon of choice." I call it my "enforcer" and now all I have to do is point it in their direction and they stop chewing on furniture or each other. New owners, relax -- the bags and circles under your eyes will go away, with time. The jumps for joy from these little hairy sticks of dynatime are worth the time you put in. This is a great web page and I've learned a lot.

Brie and Buddy are now 17 weeks old and I thank everyone who e-mailed me with advice when I was frantic about training them. They've got a long way to go, but they are doing great! Brother and sister, Buddy is about 17 pounds, white with black spots, smooth coat, long legs, very possessive and loving -- gives kisses instead of bites. Brie is petite, tri-color broken coat, with an attitude, like in "Are you talkin' to me?" She still "face darts" and almost rearranged my nose last week. Metal has replaced wicker for a toy basket (obvious reasons), halter harnesses have replaced colors -- their necks were getting to look like Arnold Schwarzeneger's (sp?). Crate training is the only way to go. They don't bark when its time to go "out," so unless I'm there to see them look up at the door (their only telltale signal), I hung a bell by the door and occasionally they nudge it and it works! We go out, then we come back, then I take one out to finish, then I take the other one out to finish. Lately, they're fearful of different parts of the yard -- don't know why. I'm always with them and so far nothing has come out of the woods at them, so it must be a phase. "Weapon" of choice is a squirt bottle with watered-down apple extract and I don't even have to squirt, just point, and they get the message! Training is with treats -- force doesn't work -- like having two stone statues. Love, love, love and PATIENCE work the best. Good luck to all new owners and I envy those of you who can let yours sleep in bed with you -- I'd be chopped meat!

Ihave a pushing two year old terrorist, I mean Terrier names Spike, His father was Briar Patch Jame and his mother Tymawr Beatrice, he's 95% white withe a black "pat"spot on his rump and a little black spotting on each ear. His best buddy is a very large bassett hound named Sabastian, a real Mutt & Jeff team. Between the two of them I'm very busy. Sike and I belong to the JRTCA and advise all to join and to join the local JRT clubs, he really enjoys the local clubs Fun Days. He loves to race and go to ground the best, he's a 6 foot dog in a 14 inch body! When he's not playing ball he keeps the hound fit, he's a real JR. Thank you for a great web site for these great little dogs, Jim & Spike

On Sunday June 14th, we became the proud parents of an 11 week old JRT. His name is Bacio (pronounced Ba' chi o), which means 'kiss' in Italian. He is a true smooth coat with a full mask on the right of his face, and a half mask on the left. Of course we are a bit swayed and feel he is one of the most handsome boys in the world! (Sound farmiliar!) I was excited to find this link. We will visit it often so we can share in other peoples joy and appreciation of the JRT for their wit, opinions, smarts, and dedication that fill a JRT's parents lives! In one amazing week, we have already seen how awsome this animal can be in so many ways. I hope to share a 'story' some day, but until then, I will enjoy yours.... Sincerely, Renee, Josh, and Bacio!

I breed for thier temperment and for fun. Mostly they are my pets. I raise them for my injoyment and for the dogs injoyment. I think I give more of them away than I sell. I just enjoy seeing the people and thier pet having fun. They have brought so much love into my life, I enjoy returning that love to other people. They are the best part of my family's life.

We have two JRTs. One we bought from a working farm in Ipswich England while stationed there. We decided to let her have one litter and kept one out of the three puppies. Her sire was a handsome JRT with strong chest and muscular body. He is owned by a respected local breeder. We had her and the puppy (a male) fixed. They are a real pair and provide hours of intertainment. Her puppy was the best toy we ever bought her. Pip (the female) is 5 years old and Milo (the male) is almost 2.

We acquired our JRT, Rudy, from a relative who had been given this JRT as a Christmas gift. Four weeks later she was calling around to see if she could find someone that wanted him. We took him not really knowing personality traits of this breed, but thought he would make a good companion for a mixed breed dog someone had dropped off (which he did). Ultimately, I believe God put Rudy in our lives to expound on patience and love.

After our family dog passed at age 18, we purchased a JR we named Patches. She is the sweetest dog I have ever known. I got married a year later and told my Dad I wanted a "Patchy Dog" for my wedding gift. We purchased her half sister. She has brought me more joy than anything in the world. Her name is Jasmine. She is solid white with some brown on her ear and tip of her tail. She and I have the same personality... HYPER! I sincerely believe that JR owners are the luckiest people in the world... and why not, they are owned by the best!! Jasmine is my little Angel Dog, eventhough she can be the devil span :)

Hello from Sunny Singapore, Glad to find all the good info on JRT on this page. I have just got a JRT imported from Australia, today 3 months old, 'Jasper' type looks. I think you should put some characteristicsof the dog and what it's like in case somebody wants to get one.

We have 3 wonderful, amazing and adorable JRT's which were all bred by us. Lonnie is 12 and is everyones darling(she sleeps on my bed if she can get away with it!),Rip II is nine and the cutie, she's the smallest JRT in SA and I think she's the best rabiter. Our youngest is Spot, who's 6, what she lacks in brain power she makes up for through her lovable nature. Our kennel name is PUMULA and we started breeding in 85 with Rip I who was sadly killed by a snake in 1990. Hopefully Rip II will have another litter sometime soon and add to our long list of puppies (about 50 at last count)

Heippis vaan kaikille!!(That's finnish and is like hello everyone)
I have two jack russells Debi (2 yrs) and Merri (8Months soon and she's a parson). I compete in agility with Debi and starting to train Merri. At the next weekend we are going to compete from Finnish Championchip -98 title. Merri is one big promise to agility fields and now even faster than thought!
If you like to have a russell puppy from Finland Debi is going to have puppys later in this year.
And tip cut the leg off from your old jeans and do a knot to it. That's the best thing to rip! (I don't do thr ripping, Debi and Merri does).
