We have had Pepie for two years now. The first six months were rough going. I wasn't sure if he was going to make it in this household. He spent half his puppyhood in his crate, but thanks goodness I kept my patience and sense of humor about me because today I wouldn't trade my little guy for the world. He truly is my baby and a great companion.

We have a loving nine-year old J-R, by the name of Quincy. She is short-legged, with tan and white markings. Quincy - who is extremely youthful for her age, likes to chase squirrels, golpers, and once in awhile get the better of our Birmese and Ocicat cats. She is the most intelligent, fun-loving dog we have ever had. Quincy can make your heart melt with those big soulful brown eyes.

Greetings Jasper, from Abbie, Hudson and Scooter-doo!!!
Our "Mom" just found your site, and she was pretty excited!!! We are all sitting w/ her helping her type. My sisters are taking a break from their pups right now.(we just had two litters!!!!) Since they are busy with the babies "Mom" and I spend extra time together, she even takes me to work with her!!
We are all very spoiled and well cared for. We live on a ten acre horse ranch so we spend lots of time running around.
If you know anybody that would like a little bundle of joy, please give them our E address. We will certainly check back here again.
Thanks for a great site!,

I have a 6 month jrt who loves water. He will chase a sprinkler for hours. He also loves the river close to our house and will even follow you through the rapids. Iggy is his name, and he rocks!

I love my Jacks! I never would of dreamed that with the purchase of my first in 1995 would lead to what it has. I am now not only an owner, but also a breeder. At last count I have 18 puppies and 9 adult Jacks, with each having it's own special little personality.

Viny just turned 7 months old. He can do several tricks; such as jump through hoops, sit on command, roll over, and walk on his hind two legs. He loves to sleep on my head and wakes me up every morning with loving kisses to my face. He is the most intelligent breed and I love it when he looks into my eyes.

Tyler has been my best buddy for over 2 years now. He is my first JRT and is a big help in bringing my 12 horses in from turnout. (He thinks he's a herd dog!) He just recovered from a bad case of colitis this week, but is now back to his usual
bouncy self. I've had other small dogs before, but never
realized what a joy it was to have a JRT. What an experience!

I can tell that you devoted a lot of time creating this site - strictly about Jack Russell's. The pictures are great, I think you should add a photo gallery with your great collection of JRT's. I appreciate every person who commits their life to saving Terriers, or any other animal for that matter.

We are eagerly awaiting the start of our first experience of co- inhabiting with a JR. Although we have much experience sitting for one, we haven't owned our own! A friend who is also a breeder found us one who is ready for retirement (at age 6yrs), no more shows or puppies for her. She get to live on a horse farm with two young boys and a friendly JR across the way.

Hi!! Love this site! We rescued Corky from the shelter. At the time we didn't realize he was a JRT. The shelter tried telling us he was a "Chihuahua and Beagle" mix!! ... Well a quick trip to the vet, and we discovered we had a fiesty JRT. And we've loved him every minute!! Even if he does have a tail. :-) Keep up the good work!

This web site is one of the BEST! We have a 14 month old JRT male whose name is Tyke ... Tyke is 14 pounds of energy, love and happiness. He is a smooth coat, short hair, white with a black and brown head. We adopted a mixed breed JRT who is 32 pounds, with a smooth coat, white with black , split head. Someone misled my sister and told her that Jack's do not shed. Well as we all know they do. So if you do't like dog hair all over you and everything else you own pick another breed!! Her name is Sadie, and she is the lady of our house. We had her first, and came to realize that we did not have the energy to keep up with her demands to play with her. We decided , when she was a year old, to see what we could do as far as a friend and we found Tyke. We just thought that Sadie had a lot of energy!! We have installed an in ground fence just so Tyke can go out and do laps, guard the yard, chase the birds, bark at the bunnies only to come in the house and play catch the tennis ball 85 times per minute and play race through the house with Sadie until all the throw rugs are throughly turned upside down. Then we can watch TV but not read the paper. Tyke insists on sitting right in the middle of what ever you might pick up to read!! We LOVE these dogs. They sleep with us at night. Tyke being full JRT of course sleeps under the covers. We would only say that these dogs are like having small children and require alot of love and handling. Both have been going to dog school where I have learned what bad behaviors on my part cause my dog to misbehave. I would never belive that either of my dogs , so full of energy and couriosity, would do a 5 min. sit stay in a line of 20 to 25 dogs, while I stand across the room. But of course we all know they are the most intelegent dogs in the world! The trick is to learn to understand them. Both of my dogs can swim. We live close to a lake and they love to go boating. In fact that's where Tyke spent alot of his time when he was learning about where to GO or not to GO. If someone out there can give me any suggestions on how I might teach Tyke about the perils of traffic I would like to hear from you. I walk him every day where there is alot of street traffic but I can not get him to recognize the moving vehicles. I can get him to sit at the curb, but not understand what he is waiting for. Most likely I never will.

I've had my little JRT since he was a pup. His name is Edward and he's going to be 4 this month. He's got one brown patch over his eye, and the rest of him is pure white. He's a doll and I love him to pieces, but I can't bring any other little pets home ... because he'll go crazy!

I am a "future" owner of a JRT ... and, always on the look out for sites that are devoted them. I have set '99 as the year to bring one to my new home (haven't even bought the house yet!), but I know what puppy will be coming home with me. Some have suggested taking it to my apartment until I closed on a house but all true owners of JRT's know that they need space and more space and more...well you get the idea. Love this site. Thanks for all the photo's! They melt my heart.

My name is Emily Lifsey, and I have recently become a fan of Jack Russell Terriers. There are not many breeders here in Louisiana, so I have had trouble finding a good person to buy from. I do not own a JRT yet, but when I graduate and enter veterinary school, that will be my reward. Great site. I love all the pictures of JRTs, and cannot wait to own my own!

I was searching the web for '"Van Gorder " ... and this site was listed. This is intriguing to me because in 1982 I brought a male and female JRT from England and had]
quite a few litters. I am quite certain their line has by now
spread across the country and beyond.
Why did my search list this site? Is there any reference to me anywhere?

I love JRT'S ... they're the best. I am over at some friends' house and they have two JRT's of their own. Theirs are full-grown, and ours are only five months old, but they get along great. My dogs get mad sometimes, but other than that, they're
great. Our dogs are both girls and their names are: Molly
and Sophie. And don't forget JRT'S are the best.
P.S. -- Keep up the great web site!

I met my new J-R today ... he is just a mere week old! I pick him up
for good on Sept. 8 and I am thrilled. I am told I should use the
first letter of the mother's name to name the dog... but there aren't
too many names that start with "E". Any suggestions? ... Of course,
it would have to be an unusual name to go with an unusual dog!
Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have really enjoyed visiting your webpages. I myself just became a proud owner of a JRT. He is 8wks old and his name is Bently. He is totally adorable,I have had him for a total of 4 days and he has already managed to take control of the house. I have an eleven month old son, and its a riot. They are both teething at the same time, and the kid wants the puppy toys and the puppy wants the kids toys.

I think this web site is delightful. We have had different breeds of dogs over the years, but our Jack Russell is by far the most fun.
He was a handful at first until he had us thoroughly trained. Casey is
almost two years old, and keeps our 9 year old Golden Retriever in shape.
I have really enjoyed the photos and comments about our lively friends.
Keep up the good work.

Hello from Peekaboo and Pockets ...
We are two jrt's who are three months old. As brother and sister we sometimes give our caregiver a rough time. Have to check out their patience before we allow him the title of proud owner. They even bought us our own little swimming pool that we get into and out of when it gets alittle hot. We get to go wading and swat at the reflections and drawings on the bottom of the pool. Well we have to go there is the linoleum that is left on the floor we want to see if we can tear it off so they can color co-ordinate it with
our new bed.
Sincerely Yours,
Peekaboo and Pockets
P.S. -- we love chasing each other around the house or back yard

Hi,
My name is Fraiser. I have one brown and black eye patch over my left eye; otherwise I am entirely white. I am four moths old and have lived with my new parent for two months. I have been attending puppy kindergarten classes. They haven't taught me much, but I am sure getting everyone elses attention. My parent is somewhat exasberated when we leave, so I give him a little extra TLC to make up for it. I love to go for walks (actually runs). My parent travels around the the countryside in his car as he makes his living. I insist that he takes me with. I even get to make sales calls with him. I've noticed that his sales has increased since we've been a pair. That is real good, 'cause my adoption ran into major bucks! Well I've really been up to late, so I will sign off now.

I adopted a 6 week old puppy from a local shelter, in May ... she is all tan, with black face and white stomach. I was told that she was a Terrier mix. I have been researching diffrent terrier breeds and i have found her to be a Jack Russel Terrier ... she has every feature to a T ... except for her coloring, and i wondered if there are tan Jack Russel Terriers. She is now 3 months old, and the sweetest puppy in the world . Though she loves to nip a lot ... she has already learned to sit and lay down, I hope the potty training will be completed soon .....Codie is a wonderful addition to our family...

Hi! My Grandad had a Yorkshire Terrier, named Ribena, in Ireland, who was a very happy dog, but when my Grandad died five years ago, Ribena was unhappy for a while. Just around a month ago, Ribena got run over and died, and my dad only told me yesterday what had happened, and I was very upset and angry that he
hadn't told me sooner.
My dad now wants a Jack Russel, because he once had one called Oxo when he was a kid, and he has always blamed himself since he was a kid when Oxo got killed by other dogs in a field . . . my dad was going to school one day, and Oxo was following him ... and he told the dog to go home, so the dog turned around and walked off . . . And, on my dad's way back from school, he went up into a field to play football with some friends, and when he went up there, he saw Oxo laying on the floor dead. Dad says he was killed by other dogs. He blames himself for not taking the dog back home.
If we do get a Jack Russell, we will call it Oxo, but we don't know how we can look after it if my mum and dad are at work and me and my brother are at school . . . but we still have to think things through. Thank you for letting me write in your guestbook, and to tell you about my dad's
and my experiences with Ribena and Oxo.
Goodbye!,

Jack Russels are a bundle of ACTIVE JOY! They are energetic and wonderful. I don't have one now, because I work full time and live in a city. My brother has 30 acres and eight Jack Russels. Just about anytime we take them out for a walk, they stop and start digging, and sure enough, they find gophers, squirrels, mice, moles or something. They are really persistent.
There is a canal behind the property where they swim and splash. My nephew was over the other day and told me they have had new pups and are going to sell them. I'd get one
if it weren't for my everyday work. I like to spend time and play with them. I think they have a lot of character.

Hello to all the JRT fans around the globe worldwide! We here at Ironhorse kennels wish all you Jacks and their people the very best this summer. We love JRT's alot ... by the dozen in fact! ... I guess your right we must be addicted to JRT's and we are!...
I bought one female puppy that I named Ratatooie over 8 years ago, specifically to kill rats in the stables, and now I train, work, show, breed and LOVE theese little fiesty little, white, hunting terriers 365 days a year!
My family and friends will tell you that I've gone to the dogs ... My kennels are becoming more elaborate and bigger than my stables! ... My Warmblood show horses are currently offered for sale, and my acreage use is changing from equine to canine. The natural hunter jumper / eventing course for the horses is being reconstructed for Long distance Jack Russell Racing - Hurdles and Super Dog Championships. Even the Go To Ground tunnels will be very challenging and quite unique, but mostly, very Fun for the Jacks! I want to make Ironhorse Kennels / Farms the most fun place for my Jacks and their friends as can be possible, in Canada.
I hope to host a Sanctioned Trial in the next year or so. If any Jacks and their people are interested in stuff like this, e-Mail me ... I'd love to hear from you - wherever you are. If you have any suggestions for interesting events you've seen Jack Russels participate in for sport, I would be most interested to learn about them...
Thank you in advance for any exchange of ideas regarding Jack Russells in sport / competition,
A.Rae Des Rochers, owner of Ironhorse Kennels
P.S. -- I love this web site, a job well done and truly "Top Drawer"

I adopted my JRT from a breeder 4 1/2 years ago when he was only 10 months old. He had perfect conformation, but his teeth shifted, therefore could not be used for show or stud. It was a sad time in my life when I met this pup. My fiance had just called-off our wedding just months before we were to wed and I was hurt and confused. This little pup seemed to need me as much as I needed him. It was a strange set of circumstances
that led me to him, which made me believe that he was sent to me from my mother, from the Heavens above. She couldn't be here for me, so she sent this little dog down to me to watch over me. And watch over me he did. I named him Stewart, and we were inseparable from that day on. When I would cry at night, I would awake to Stewart sitting over my head looking down at me... and watching over
me. He would then put his arms around my neck and lick the tears from my face... assuring me happier days were to come. I trusted him completely, and sure enough, he was right. My mother always told me that everything happens for a reason. But now I am feeling pain like I have never felt before. I want to die, but I know that is not an option . . .
On March 24,1998, a tragic accident out at my fathers farm claimed the life of my precious Stewart . . . my Sugar Pie... why did he have to go back to Heaven so soon and leave me behind ??? ... leave me so broken hearted that I wonder how
I am even able to function each day. I used to sing the chorus of a song called
"Sugar Pie" sung by a band called the SubDudes. I didn't realize
this verse was in the song until after Stewart was killed and I
was reading over the lyrics . . . and I share this verse with you, of a very
special song --- in loving Memory of Stewart Lewis Gallagher,
1992-1998. I love you Stewart, and I miss you so much . . .
Now time has passed, and you're so far away
Can't get used to not seeing you each day
But there's one place in the back of my mind
Where I can go to see you anytime
And for you to me, forever you will be my...
Sugar Pie, Sugar Pie, Sit by me,
Sugar Pie, Sugar Pie, Sit by me...

We bought our Jack Russell from a horse farm near Uxbridge. We have called him Farley, and we love him to death. We get accosted everywhere we go as people say that he is the cutest puppy that they have ever seen and I tend to agree ...
a bright lovable affectionate and energetic breed.
Highly recommended. We are looking for other Jack's for Farley to play with in Toronto! ...

I got Merlin when he was seven weeks old and he was (and still is) so cute, i just almost couldn't stand to look at him without squeezing him to death. He's a year and a half now, and i have barely survived at times . . . but even when he makes me mad, I always end up laughing and playing with him. He has brought such joy to my life and i know that i will always have a JRT (maybe more than one at a time) in my home. Also, I have really enjoyed this Website, and look forward to visiting again... and again.

I am a 12 year old boy who has owned a Jack Russell Terrior for over
2 years, and there wasn't a day that i didn't play with him. i knew how playful,
cheerful, and daring he was!! But i never knew that his personality would lead to his untimely death..
One day, seconds before i went bounding out the door, i saw Rascal (thats his name) in his attack stance, and then my eyes fixed on a
huge rattle snake. I stood there in shock watching Rascal jump on this huge snake and i saw it strike him, and it bit him twice. We rushed him to the vet, but with no anti-venom he died there ... and this was yesterday and i'm still crying over him.
I find myself hanging around this website when i would be playing with Rascal.
I'am already saving up for another j.r.t.
i love those dogs.

My wife and I have a 2 y.o. smooth-haired male named Cisco. He has all the traits of a charismatic comedian and as yet we have been unable to locate the button you press to calm him down. He loves everybody, especially children and anyone possessing a chicken wing. He's so clever that when having a conversation near him we keep having to spell out the letters of certain words rather than say them because he gets so excited when he hears the word "walk", "dinner" etc. Are we the only owners that have a moonscape in our backyard?

Hi, my husband and I have a 3 mo. old JR, and she has the most unusual coloring . . . obviously not a pure-bred, as we were led to beleive. She had a solid brown face, a black back and white legs, with black and brown freckles. The only thing that really distinguishes her as a J-R is her attitude. We are finding out quickly how much energy these little dogs have. We are having trouble with mouthing / biting already, which is common with J-R's ... does anyone have any advice? Thanks for the great website!!

We got our first from the pound, three years ago! Can you believe it? From the pound!! We loved Cricket so much that we searched for another J-R when we were ready for a puppy . . . JRT's are bundles of joy. I bought Arrow one year ago ... from an abusive home. He didn't fit in right away ... and he wasn't fond of sharing his new environment with a 125 Lab.
Happy to report that both boys are happy now, and best friends ... although Arrow gets very upset when Zeus lies on the bed with him.

Our J-R recently came to us from a home where he couldn't get along with a rottweiler, but he became good buddies with our border collie and corgi. Like lots of other J-Rs, Cruiser loves the water, which can be a problem when you live next to a cold lake in the Yukon as we do We sometimes have to drag him out of the water before he becomes hypothermic! He also loves to jump in the horses water trough every chance he gets. We love him dearly after only a couple of months, as we knew we would having known my parents' 3 J-Rs previously. Hurray for J-Rs!

I have a Jack Russell Terrier named Mango. I rescued Mango as a puppy from our local pound. Since we have had her in our home, she has been the light of my life. She is a clown, and she loves attention. I'm not sure that she is 100% JRT, since I got her from the pound, but she certainly looks and acts exactly like one, so I'm assuming she is. I love my puppy so much. She is about 8 months old now. She sleeps with me and my husband at night. Actually, she sleeps in the crook of my arm and puts her little head on my shoulder. I have to move her when she wakes me up with her snoring, though. This is one of the most intelligent dogs I have ever had. I am so lucky Mango was there the day I went to the pound. I think she was meant to be there for me. Snookie, our 4 year old cat, has gotten used to Mango. They play sometimes, but Snookie will swat Mango and hiss when she's had enough. We are fortunate to have a cat that will tolerate the constant harassing she has to put up with. When we move to a bigger home, I plan to visit a breeder to get Mango a playmate.

We lost a devoted, wonderful Lab after 17 years ... and had agreed
not to have any more animals. My husband saw a news segment about
so many throw-away dogs at the pound, and how Jack Russell's were
the up-and-coming throw-away-dog. Our local shelter was featured
with 5 JRT's. The following day my husband (unknown to me) went to
the shelter and adopted a 7 yr. old female, who has become the best
companion we have ever had. We have a 2 yr. old granddaughter who
plays with Nikki all the time, and we find Nikki to be both patient
and gentle with her. Nikki goes everywhere with us - including kayaking.
Our only disappointment is, after finally locating the vet who had treated
her for years, we discovered her former owner's also turned a 9 yr. old
male over to the shelter, and we haven't been able to discover his fate.

I am the proud "grandmother" of a 9 month old JRT, Otto Von Bismark or 'Bizzy' for short. Biz has just been expelled from puppy preschool for fighting. Being his "grammy", he can do nothing wrong, so I am still proud of him. The vet said he is just being a JRT! ... I am visiting your web site with hopes of acquiring more understanding of this adorable breed. I can't help he bit the instructor, and attacked a 45 pound Lab puppy. I do not have to tell you who won, do I?

I love your site, it is so cute.
I have a jackrussel named Morgan, she is so sweet even when she pees on the carpet! She hasta be 1 of the smartest animals that I have ever met. Once we gave her a bath and had to go out right away and left her alone she pissed in my mothers sliper,
because she was mad at us. In the summer she will just slap herself down in the sun and lay there all day. Some times we have to put suntan lotion on her because she
gets burnt. Right now she is just laying on the carpet beside me, and it's ssssooooo cute!!!

Gracie sends greetings to Jasper ... from Newport Beach. She is a native of Southern California and has one older "big brother" named Buck, who is a Golden Retriever. She loves her brother Buck! She also has a "cousin" - Archie, who is a Hanivarian Dutch Warm Blood (Horse). We go down to San Juan Capistrano frequently to ride. She doesn't much care for riding but loves to run along side. She can literally out run and out last our horse. She comes to work with me and sits in her own chair next to me. She helps me on the computer and is proofing this as we write. She is pretty good with the neighborhood dogs but hates poor Willie. Willie is a black lab who for some reason Gracie just will not tolerate. She tries to attack him every chance she gets, and bit his tail so hard once as to even draw blood, poor Willie! Gracie has scuffy hair, her mom has long hair and her dad is a smooth coat. She's really very cute and also knows it. She is 3 years old and a perfect little angel. Thanks, Jasper, for the web page it is really very nice. I wish you had more products ie, home accessories, pillows, or whatever.

Dear Jasper,
I havd had my JRT for one month now, and Jack is the best thing that has ever happened to me and my family. He is three months old, and just a ball of energy and love. The best part about Jack is the way he reacts to us and our family and friends. There is nothing like having Jack waking us, with lots of kisses, and then at night, he likes for us to massage his legs (after a very long walk), and rub his belly, as he looks so deeply into our eyes... as if he can actualy read our thoughts! I have been reading about JRT's on the net, and about the only ones I read about are Parsons. Please let people know that the English Jack Russell (the one with the short legs) is a different kettle of fish from the Parsons! The temperament is different, the level of activity is different, and it deserves to be recognized. It is a wonderful, gamey, yet devoted, calm and loving little animal. I am a "shorty" breeder and I am constantly having to defend my little dogs to people who only know of the Parsons. Thanks for letting me vent ...

I am the proud owner of a tan and white, smooth coat 18 month old JRT that goes by the name of North. His full name is: Lord Frederick North, after the British Prime Minister. Even though North is dwarf legged JRT, that doesn't stop him from terrorizing my neighbors, as well my furniture. What North lacks in height, he more than makes up for in personality and loyalty. I have learned many lessons regarding patience when it comes to North and his habits. North unfortunatley likes to use some of his bodily functions as weapons, but if you stay on good terms with him and supply him with plenty of chew sticks, all is right with the world.

My fourteen-week old Catfish is great. I studied the
breed before I bought. Thank goodness for crates and the
Monks of New Skete. This is my first dog to raise from a
pup and it has been a challenge. We spend about 22 hours
a day together. I plan to hunt him, race him, and whatever
else we think is great. I rode and he ran over 2 miles on
a mountain bike trail last week. I panted, he didn't.
The biggest problem is telling friends who are infatuated
with Catfish, but aren't ready for a JRT what kind of dog to
get.
Any suggestions?

My JRT, Jonty (after the South African cricketer, of course), is now 7 months old. He has been a joy to train, and comes to lectures with me every day (I'm studying vet science). The only problem is ... that he has discovered rabbits, and now tends to disappear on our walks, rather than keep me company!

He and Milton are such good buddies, they romp and play and Milton keeps Buddies ears, nose, and eyes so clean the the Vet commented on the fact. Milton has an obsession with the garden hose, he wants to play with the water stream for hours. He even knows how to turn on the nozzle and sometimes keeps it on by hitting the right place on it. He plays jump rope with the water and bites at the water until it seems he has filled up to look like a water balloon. He also does his thing when taken out to the field to play with Buddy, he digs and catches field mice, rats, & anything that happens to be there that is smaller than he is at first he didn't kill the thing, but soon learned that if he released it it would run away...He is a very clownish pup and if you laugh at him he will do whatever he is doing
over and over again. They are not a dog for someone who doesn't have experience with dogs or someone who is shy about training dogs, but when you do train them, they will
be the best dog anyone ever had...

Great Page, love it very much. My family is getting a Jack Russell puppy. You should add a section for good names for the dogs.

My five month old JRT, Jasmine, and I appreciate your JRT website. She is truly a beautiful girl, and the whole family loves her. I would like information about how to join the JRTCA. Can anyone give me guidance about that ... I would be very grateful.

Hello! ... We love the Jack Russell breed so much that we have four:
Jake, Patience, Precious and Jackie. We find this breed fits our needs
to at "T" ... each of us have a dog of our own that seems to understand
who they belong to. In fact, we have begun to breed these wonderfull dogs.
Someday soon, we will send/include our favorite pictures of our four legged
family members.

Bailey is a playful 2 1/2 year old female Jack who resides and plays with Mickey Mouse in Orlando, Florida. She is true to her breed; hunting, chasing and capturing chamelions and other backyard critters. She has set the standard for our neighborhood pets, Bailey is the eldest of the five new JRTs on our street.

We have an adorable 5 1/2 month old JRT "Jack". He has short legs and short hair with white and black markings. He is the best "investment" we have made this year and most likely, we will adopt another and hopefully a girl which we plan to name "Jill". Cheers to JRT's!!!!

Hi. I was wondering if some one can please help me. I know of a Jack Russell that is being abused. I have called the humane society, the police, dog wardens, etc. No one seems to be able to help me. Coming on line is my last resort. The problem is: I havent seen the dog myself being abused. Its my friends' husband that is doing it. She has told some people that she works with, and her sister, what has been going on. She won't come forward because she is afraid of him. He is also abusive towards her. She also has lied to the dog warden to cover up the abuse. Please help me - anyone! ... Is there a Conneticut Jack Russell rescue team out there?? Or anyone else that can help me?? I can not let this poor defenseless dog stay one more day in that house. Please, if anyone can help me let me know asap. Thanks.
