The Jack Russell Terrier
GUESTBOOK

September    October '98

It was great to find a site devoted to Jack Russels! I will be checking this site out a lot more. I have 2 Jack Russel Terriors. Ben is 7 years old, and Melrose is 3 years old. ( yes, it was after Melrose place!). She is a lot like Amanda, knows what she wants, and how to get it.
Ben and Melrose just love their walks by the lake, where they create havoc by chasing the ducks. This makes people nervous, so I have opted for mouth masks to be more responsible. They look quite funny in them ... they look like Hannibal Lector!
I love these guys and all the fun we have together.

I have been breeding Jack Russell Terriers for 16 years now. I have found my best friends to be JRTs. They are loyal, loving, trustworthy, funny, and any and all positive things you can think of. I just wish people were as good as these creature that God has given us.

Love your webpage!!! Great pictures! ... I had to laugh and smile... they are terrific! We have a long haired (but soft!) Jack Russell named Eddie (Super Eddie to us!). He is too cool, and is a super jumper. He won first prize in his first and only (so far) race! Way to go Ed!

We have a 1 year old J-R named Snickers. She is the most loving animal we have ever owned. We were told of all the horror stories of J-R's behavior, but she is exactly the opposite of everything we heard. We also have a female German Short Hair and they are the best of friends. Without these two, I think there would be a lot less joy in our lives.

Hi! ... My name is Oscar... I am a JRT.. almost ready to celebrate my first year of life! I had some close calls my first year.. but so far, I have dodged cars.. electrical shock (cord... what cord?).. and many threats from my mother.. (she really likes me.. but she won't admitt it!). She says I'm running a tab for all the things I've destroyed. She still plays with me whenever I want, and sometimes ignores me when I take a nap on the couch. I really like to sit in the window sill and bark at runners every evening... I'm sure my neighbors don't mind... after all, I am the cutest dog in the neighborhood.
I have a buddie named Felix..he is a cat...he was there first, but I rule the roost. Felix doesn't mind that I drag him around the house by the ear..sometimes he even jumps on me first!
My parents are having a baby soon.. we already have two older kids.. but this baby is making me nervous. I'm not sure how I will behave. I'm sure.. at least they tell me I better be sure.. that I'll be the perfect little dog that I am already!
Well... there's a jogger coming, and I need to get on my perch... then I have to play ball ...steal some underwear out of the laundry basket... abuse the cat, and look adorable all at the same time.

I have a five month old Jack Russell named Max. After getting him, I have decided that Jack Russell's are the best dogs to have. These dogs are so full of life and spunk, that they just make people smile when they see them. Max is a real character. I don't know what I would do without him.

We are the proud owners of an 11 month old long-haired Jack Russell. He is called Bandit, owing to two black patches across his eyes. He has a unique character, but like some other visitors to the guestbook, we find that he gets very overexcited when we return, even after just a short while - any hints on how to tackle this would be gratefully received.

My jack's name is Penny. She has managed to turn my husband from anti to pro-jack. She is 11 months old, is totally housebroken, not a mean bone in her body, great with our 5 yr.old son, and quite laid back. I take her to work (on a horse farm) and she loves to chase barn swallows and bailing twine. She does not have any bad habits - except the typical jack mentality that 'vehicles will stop for me'and that keeps me hopping. She's perfect and I love her.

We have a Jack Russel Terrier and we love him.
Although he is the most lovable and funniest dog, he has his very bad points too. He thinks he is the King of our household. He has killed quite a few birds in our backyard. He barks way too much-- anybody want him?

We have a male JRT that will be 1 year old in November. He is UKC regestered, we hope to get a female soon. He is raised haired with lots of markings and a big saddle. he has long legs and we love him very much though he his very hyper and is always in trouble. His regestered name is spudnick smoke but we call him spud or pig (because he snorts like a pig when he is exicted.

We got our first dog ever - a JRT, last year, and have been treated to the best experience in dog owning we could have hoped for. Lola is now a year old, and has brought so much joy and love to our family (along with a little mischief!). After reading your other guest entries, I can see I'm not the only one who is utterly and completely in love. Lola spends her days patroling our property, protected by the invisible in-ground fence we installed for her. She spends her evenings sleeping on whoever's bed- she thinks she is a person and has us convinced she is!!
Thanks for your web page and your Calendar - which we truly enjoy, appreciate all your hard work!!

GREAT website!!!!! I love it. My husband and I can't wait to get our daughter a JRT! We're SO excited, but we've been having a hard time trying to find a quality animal in our area. Hopefully, everything will work out though. I'd LOVE to have every JRT on this page, though. They're absolutely adorable!

I brought home 8 week old Sampson yesterday, and couldn't wait to get online and tell you all about him. Sampson is a short haired little fellow with short stocky legs (so far!). He has two brown saddle bag marks along his back, and a brown head with an uneven white strip up the middle. He has already learned that his crate is HIS space. When he gets tired out from playing as puppies do, he whines a little and then heads for his crate. He refuses to wear a collar at the moment, so I think I will wait another couple of days before trying again. I can already tell that Sampson is going to be my best friend for life.

Our J-R, Nigel is a year and eight months. Nigel is a short-legged, smooth coat and has all his color on his face. We've taught him to fetch the newspaper which he patiently waits for every morning. Once in awhile he gets carried away and retrieves a neighbor's paper--oh, well! He's our first small dog and we're sold. Not only is he smart, affectionate, a great cuddler in bed, he also keeps our six year old cat on his toes. Who knows we might get Nigel a buddy some day. Did I mention he likes baby carrots!!

Hello,
We are also fortunate to have the fun and love of our 3 JRT's. Lily is the oldest (6 Oct 16), and knows everything! She is the best bed mate, smiler, hunter, mother, GTG Champion, sooooooo funny, and EVERYONE loves her.
Her son, RC (Reese Cup) is 2, and just neutered. We love him so, and he loves his new 5 month old sister, that is another of Lily's puppies, Dixie Rose. She is the funniest yet!! They all like to get their teeth brushed, swim, sleep in bed, de-gut their stuffed animals, go ANYWHERE, and watch tv. The only vacations my husband and I go on are Jack Russell Terrier Trials in our area, or to fun days with other members who are friends! They must play bubbles every morning, and it has gotten to the point, where I'd rather have 3 sessions, than one. They get so excited. Lily also loves her soccer ball (no bumps, they do remove hair and skin).

I found a little JRT mix last year on my front porch. I was unbable to find a home for her since she has some house breaking problems. I ended up keeping her, and we are still working on the house breaking. She is now about 21/2 yrs old and her name is Goose - for silly goose. She looks very much like a JRT, and the more I read about JRT behavior the more I realize how much JRT she has in her. She has been quick to learn basic obedience-healing and sitting. Later this fall we are going to enroll in an agility class. Should be lots of fun for both of us.

When will the 1999 calender be ready? ... Edsel and I would like to order one as soon as possible. Edsel will be three on September 28th. He is black and white, stunningly handsome, adorable, headstrong and the love of my life. He enjoys climbing trees, digging up the yard, riding in the boat, eating seafood, going to work with me and riding in the truck and at the end of each action packed day he gets under the bed covers and sleeps between my husband and I. Just a typical JRT life.

I have always wanted a JRT for as long as I could remember. I was lucky enough to have been given one this past January from a cousin. She was by far the best gift I've ever had. My baby's name is Roxy. She'll be a year old in November. I've always heard JRTs are very intelligent dogs- Roxy has proven this many times to me. She's also very protective of me. She thinks she's the toughest dog around- It's so cute. There is one small problem that I have with her. She's extremely hyper. I have a very hard time keeping her from jumping on company (I didn't know JRTs could jump so high!) We're working on it though. At first, we had a problem with her eating the couch, our shoes, our rocking chair, my panties, toilet paper, books, etc. but, now we're doing a little better. I love my Roxy, she's the best thing that ever happened to me.

Hi from Buzz, our JRT and his family! Buzz is a buff dog who used to live in Montana and hike the mountains with us. We just moved to Michigan and Buzz has had to learn that not all neighbors love him as much as our Montana ones did. The other day he took a stick over to our new neighbor and dropped it at his feet, expecting the man to pick it up and throw it. The man just yelled "GO HOME!!!" at Buzz, which Buzz took as an invitation to play. He pranced around, feinted right and left, stuck his rear in the air, etc. Our neighbor never saw the humor and I had to go apologize and get a lecture on keeping Buzz at home. So much for the little ambassador! We love him so much. My kids tease me that someday we will have a huge oil portrait of Buzz over the couch and a couple 5x7 photos of the kids somewhere in the basement. Not true! I would hang those 5x7's right beside the painting! We have so many Buzz stories - he has been a wonderful addition to our home. His favorite toy is a deflated soccer ball, which he can actually dribble. We didn't know anything about Jack Russells before Buzz, except that I thought they were cute. Now - I doubt that we will ever get another type of dog.

This is a wonderful website. I have bought the Jack Russell Calendar for the last four years and really enjoy it. I have three loving and devoted Jack russells. Sarah is 9 pounds and is 10 years old. Her son and daughter, Wesley and Bailey, are 8 yrs old and weigh 11 pounds. All I have to do to exercise them is let them loose when the automatic sprinklers are on. They will attack the water for hours. They truly are wonderful, energetic companions. My male, Wesley will play ball 24 hrs a day if he had it his way. I have to hide the ball on him when he starts to turn blue from lack of oxygen and rest. I love them to death, and will always have a Jack Russell in my life.

We have Sasha - the short haired and very long legged J.R., she is now 17 Months old and lives with Dillon, the 15 Year old rescued dog who is neither a J.R. or rescued any longer. As a result of Sasha, Dillon is suggesting rescue sites for us and him. We have had every piece of furniture in the house graced and every lap laid upon. Like the last female dog, Sasha hides behind my wife's (Pauline) skirts, but we are just holding our own and wondering what we will have to aquire to keep Sasha agoing.

My 6 month old Jack Russell, Lea-Jay, is so loving and full of energy. He has been a joy to have around. With the exception for a few accidents (swallowing earrings and having doors closed on his foot) he has had no health problems. Amazing to me is that he gets along with our others dogs (a beagle and 2 labs) wonderfully. They all get in their swimming pool and cool off during the hot days in Louisiana. Lea-Jay enjoys watching "Wishbone" episodes and any nature show.

We are Bandit and Winnie, brother and sister J-Rs, who previously visited your guestbook when we were living in Stuttgart, Germany. Well, we've moved with our family to the Dayton, Ohio area. What an exciting trip. We survived walking through the Frankfurt Germany Airport, then three airplanes, and many hours in our crates. We've decided that we'd rather travel by car all the time! Things are different here in the US though; we don't get to go to restaurants and other public places like we used to. But we like our family's new home; more room inside and out, and we've now made it our own. See you later Jasper!

Jack Russells are the best breed of dog ever created. They are playful, loveable and loyal. They never outgrow the best puppy-like qualities. I myself have two, a rough-coat named Marcel, and a smooth-coat named Holly. They are wonderful and could never be replaced!

I am the happy owner of a mostly Jack Russell terrier named Oscar, although, he really owns me and all my family. I say mostly because his ears stick up which I guess means some other breed got in there sometime. He was sold to me as pure JRT but I'm keeping him, he just too sweet to turn in for any other model. We have been the proud owners of a J-R since August 7th of this year.
As of Sept.20th, Sparky turned 4 months old. The first day home he knew his name. By the end of the first week he knew what "walk" meant. By the end of the 2nd week he was almost completely housebroken - we all make mistakes. He knew he was in trouble if he didn't ask to go "outside". Now he walks over to us, then to the door and back again until we let him out. He never cried at night. He sleeps where he chooses until we go to bed, then, we pen him in our large kitchen or when we leave with his basket of toys and food. He won't mess until we come home and let him out. Sparky doesn't chew anything except one of his many toys or an occassional hand while playing. We tell him "no" or "auh-auh" when we want him to stop doing something he shouldn't. He listens well and loves to cuddle. We always knew JR's were smart but never knew how much until we owned one - or is it he owns us?????? Sparky does, however, get carsick ... Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi, we own a sweet, smooth, female Jack named Jessie who has a true Terrier temperment. We have had her for two years now and enjoy her more and more everyday. We recently moved from Ontario Canada where Jessie took obedience and excelled. I have trained her to do many many tricks and am currently looking to get her into show business. When the L.A. based Hollywoof came to Ontario, Jessie won a spot to open the show. She was definitely in her element and soaked up every minute of attention she could. Jacks are great but only in the right hands, and breeders need to inform people more.
Thanks

Hi, my name is Nash, and I have a very hectic schedule. I just turned 8 months old and my mom says that I'm the most adorable thing that she has ever seen. I have a brother named Drake (a german shepard) who is eight years old and treats me quite well for a newcomer. I spend many hours a day pulling on his tail to get him to chase me. All our neighbors love it, they all come out to watch us play. My brother taught me how to play without biting down. The cat really appreciates that. My days are spent with my mom at her horse barn. She gives riding lessons, which enables me to visit lots of kids. I love trail riding; although, my mom says that I'm not allowed to pull on the horses tails. I am allowed to lead the horses around. I have a huge basket of toys, but mom's socks are still my favorites. At night I sleep under the covers and I'm quite grouchy if I am woken up before I am ready. I like to get 10 hours of sleep, and I'm cutest when I first wake up (or so my mom says)! Sometimes I even get to go trucking with my dad. Thats fun, but I would much rather be king of the horse barn. It is very hard work to be so cute all the time. I'm rattling on...my mom told me that I have a habit of doing things in excess. I'd love to hear from all my other relatives out there.

Murphy has been with us since July 97, and we've got an order in for a female from the same litter in the spring. Training him has been a breeze. Housebroken at 9 wks with less than a handful of accidents. He's been in training since 8 wks. Got his Canine Good Citizen at 6 months and now he is a therapy dog for the local NEW Leash on Life program at one of the nursing homes. He is the best dog ever. If the female, from the same parents, is even close in personality - WOW....
Murphy has been a breeze to train. From housebreaking at 9 wks, to the obeidence classes since 8 weeks. He got his Canine Good Citzen at 6 months and now is with the NEW Leash on Life program where he goes bi-weekly to a nursing home. The residents love him because he is bed dog and just the right size for getting up close and personal with those who are confined to bed. He's such a personality! We'd love meet other Jacks in a chat room or e-mail other's who have a passion for these amazing dog.

I have a, soon to be, 4-year-old JRT, his name is Jack and he is a spoiled brat. My sisters tell me they would hate to see a child I had raised. He loves everyone, whether they want him to or not. He sleeps in the bed, under the covers of course. He gets as close to you as possible when you are eating, just in case you might want to give him a bite. He would follow you around the world for a pig ear. And, of course, he is one ball playing fool. I moved out of town by myself and decided to get a dog for company. I didn't even know what a JRT was. My brother-in-law kept talking about these great little dogs. We went to see one and of course I feel in love. Jack is my buddy and everyone should have a great buddy.

I have two of the most adorable Jack Russell Terrors you could ever imagine, but doesn't everybody say the same thing. Barkley was our first little one, he was a mother's day present for me from my family. He immediately stole our hearts along with shoes and other memorable bits of our belongings. We loved him so much that we added a little female, Rosie. Our family is now complete as they are inseparable friends and spend hours entertaining each other and all of us.
I am visiting this page for the first time, and found it so much fun, and will definitely be baack to read more about the misadventures of Jack Russell Terriers.

I started with one Jack Russell, and the rest is history. The Jack Russell is the smartest dog I have been in contact with so far. I have owned Rotties, Shephards, Mastiff's, and also mutts, but not found as much fun, and laughter as with the JR. I am raising a small crew of five in my home and have found that the more attention, and love a puppy gets a young age, the nicer the older he gets. I do not believe in out door kennels for any breed, but that is my opinion, and I do not really put anyone down who dose. Be carefull where you purchase. That is the only real good advice I can give you. I hope to have a websit soon, so keep my name on hand so you can check out my little friends. Member of the JRTCA. Love this website.

We bought our angel baby Gidget four months ago. My family has wanted a dog for a long time, but I just wasn't for sure. We researched lots of dogs and came up with the JRT. Alot of things we read about the JRT made me a little nervous about getting one, but she has turned out to be the best dog I have ever owned. She didn't cry much at night and was very easy to crate train. I would recommend this for easy house breaking. I have become so attached to this dog I don't know what I would do without her! I just can't say enough about her. She has a brown patched eye and a paw print spot on her ear (Just like the TV dog Wishbone), the rest of her is white.

Two and a half weeks ago Toby came home to live with us. At that time he was 7 weeks old.He ahs managed to capture our hearts (like we thought he wouldn't), but has also mananged to capture everyone else's as well. He loves absolutely everyone. He is just one ball of energy. in the past two weeks I have managed to house train him and leash train him--yes at nine weeks I am taking him with me on my long walks. Btw, he is a tri-color, but only about 52% white. The rest is mostly black with just a touch of red here and there on his face and legs. Now that he is house trained we let him sleep with us--he loves to curl up just under your neck. Some time during the night he will wake up and move, but he must be touching you. When we first got him, A LOT of people told us they JRT's were destructive and hard to control. What I realize now is that the people who told these stories probably didn't give their dog enough attention. These dogs were bred to be active--they need to be played with and exercised, mentally as well as physically. I highly recommend a JRT for anyone who can give them the love and attention they need.

Jasper, Hello from Tennessee! I have a two-year old female JRT named Reno. She's my loyal companion and my "best buddy." Each morning she lays on my chest patiently (sometimes impatiently) waiting for me to awaken. She graciously allows me to hit the "snooze button" twice, but when the alarm sounds for the third time I get JRT kisses all over my face! It's the best therapy in the world! Reno's hobbies are swimming, stalking any living thing that moves, endless hours of ball chasing, and napping with mom.

I am a Video Producer that has been inspired by my JRT. My crew and I have decided to produce a broadcast quality video production on the pleasures of owning and living with JRT's. I am currently putting together a script for a 30 minute JRT production. I would love to hear from JRT owners about any of the following:
1. What would you like to see in the video?
2. What quirky traits does your JRT have?
3. Does your JRT work along side you ie. on your farm etc.
4. Has your JRT ever appeared in the press or on screen before?
5. Top tips to overcome, like my JRT, agressive instincts or the drive to protect you and your family.
6. Why you consider your JRT to be the perfect companion.
7. Any illnesses that your JRT has had and what you did to overcome these ilnesses and how you felt at the time.
8. Any amazing JRT survival stories? My friends JRT was stuck in a Rabbit hole when it caved in on her neighbours farm for 5 days and Izzy trotted home starving but raring to chase more Rabbits a couple of days later.
9. Would you be willing to have your JRT filmed for the video?
10. Do you own a JRT video, what did you like and dislike about it?
11. Would you be interested in buying a JRT video? What would you consider a reasonable price to pay for an a broadcast quality video?

I look forward to hearing from JRT owners on anything you think I should include on the video about your JRT or JRTs more generally.

Thank you for your time
Louise.

Diva was hit by a car on Oct. 9th. The loss was devasting to me and my family. Diva was a very sweet dog and a good mother. This is what makes matters worse for us as she had just given birth to 5 pups 9 days before the accident. We are now hand feeding them with hopes for their survival. The little orphans, Larry, Moe, Curly, Lou, and Bud are doing fine, but really need a nursing bitch for comfort, nourishment, and maintenance. If anyone from around the Wichita, Ks. area knows of a family who could help, please contact me at the address listed. Please note that this is bein written on 10/11/98.

Hai, my name is Jacky van Nihenhoven. I am a bitch of two and a half years old. I am white and tan spots on my ears and eyes. I love to chase the cats in the neigbourhood, but I play the two cats who live in the same house. I adore children, especially the two grandchildren of my boss. Almost every day we go to a nearby lake. I can run and jump there as much as I like. I like to swim but the water is now too cold. Together with my boss I go to obedience-classes and I have got many diploma's. I am the first dog that my boss ever had and I know that she loves me very much and I love her to of course. Greetings from me and my boss.

Great web-page, and a wonderful guestbook. It was nice to be able to read about other JRT's, their families, and experiences. I just adopted Mac, my wonderful JRT in September. He is a 12 week old bundle of neverending energy. Although he is into everything, runs faster than the speed of light, and thinks he is capable of digging to China by way of the backyard, I wouldn't trade him for the world!!! Not ony does he keep me on my toes, but he keeps me thinking constantly and I never know what is going to come next. I never thought it was possible for me to become so attatched to an animal, but I believe that the day Iwent to pick up Mac from the breeder, was the day that I met my best-friend. I researched the JRT and knew that it was going to be a handful and they had special requirements and needs above and beyond most breeds and I am glad I didn't let all those articles and opinions sway me!!! The JRT is the breed above all breeds as far as I am concerned.

Our three are mixed ... but we love them more than anything. However,
my friend's grandson has a JRT & they adore her. Thank you for letting me
read the wonderful sentiments in your guest book. What a tremendous
following you have! ... May they all have "people" like the ones who wrote in your book.

First of all, I would like to say what a good site! ... I was amazed at the obvious
excitement & love surrounding JRTs. I found this site because I am thinking of
buying a J-R. I have two young children and would appreciate any advice
regarding male or female, as I’m not sure of their different temperaments.
Any other information from anyone, or tips, would be greatly appreciated.

my name is LaRue and i have two jrt's ... Jack is 12 yrs. old,
and "jessie" is four yrs. old ... I have been a dog owner all my life
(i'm 50), and in my opinion the jrt is "the only" one for me.
Both are males, and are highly protective of me. when my
husband passed away suddenly several yrs ago, Jack knew
immediately what had happened, and it happened at someone else's
house ... Jack instantly went into a deep state greiving and
had to be taken to the vet - because he too, almost passed away
over this great loss ... so, don't let anyone tell you that these
little persons are dumb ... quite the contrary. How did he
know what had happened? ... it took several days for Jack
to return to "normal" but that he did, and a year later i was given
Jessie - named after my father. These two little rascals are
my buddies and I love them dearly. Thanks for the web site.

Hi !
My husband and I have a Jack Russell named Sparkey, or should I say he has us! It is really amazing how intelligent these little creatures are! After having larger dogs all of ourlives, it is so refreshing and sometimes unnerving to have such a little dog with a "big dog attitude". We love our dog, he is the spice of our life. We had to put our Rottweiller, Rambo, to sleep in March and we were devestated. The house was SO empty without him. (We have 4 cats, 4 bird, fish, etc.) Then we got Sparkey. He filled our house with love and mayhem. We love him for that. Thank you John Russell, you've bred a wonderfully unique dog!!

I have a 9-month old long-haired little devil named Henry and he likes to chase any thing that moves and chew on any thing that can fit into his mouth. He doesn't understand that on occasion size DOES matter despite how many times a German Shephard or Great Dane tries to teach him.

We got our JRT about 6 months ago. Her name is Milo.We rescued her from an abusive home. She was shot with a shotgun and someone cut the top of one ear off. We were also told that she was kept in a crate and some little kid use to jab a golf club at her. Needless to say those things dont happen to her anymore and we love her so much. She is always ready to give los of kisses. What a great website. Thank You!!!

There's no other choice but the JRT for me. I met my life time buddy six years ago at the city dog pound. Life has never been the same. My Poochie brings nothing but sunshine and smiles into every day. I could not imagine life without him. I love him to pieces, he's the best!

Our Asta became a mother on October 15,1998. She surprised us with 7 puppies. One didn't make it but as of 10 days old all the others are doing well. I'd understood that the usual litter size was smaller but the more the merrier.
They all have black on their faces and three have black spots on their backs. We are having a great time watching them get bigger each day. Have a good day to all you JRT fans !!!!!!!

My beloved JRT K-Gogi died 2 days ago. I don't really know why I am writing in this space except that I have heard that shared pain is lessened pain, and as a 37 year old male who is very private with my emotions I have shared my loss with no one. K-Gogi has saved my life on several occations since I saved him from the streets of Pusan S. Korea about 6 years ago, where people were trying to catch him to eat him. The first time was when we were up in the mountains mining for gold, about 4 yrs ago. A mountain lion was waiting for us on a trail that we took every morning and night. His running up to the bush to warn me cost him his right eye. On another occasion he woke me up during a fire that was out of control, and we escaped with seconds to spare. On the other occasions he saved me by just being there through suicidal depression (who would take care of K-Gogi?) We were never apart and he slept with me nightly untill a car took him from me 2 days ago. I am sorry to bore anyone with this. By the way I named him K-gogi because that is what dog meat is called in Korea and what he would have become had I not saved him. He paid his debit many times over. Goodbye old friend.

Buddy (white with black spots) and Brie (tri-colored, rough coat) are now 8 months old and despite the fotrune I've spent on rawhide rolls, bones, and chews, they still gobble up everything they can reach. They are trying very hard to be good, but have resisted learning to STAY. I am amazed that not one JRT owner seems to have a problem with things eaten/shredded/destroyed. I love my little bundles of explosive energy to pieces, but I'd really like to see them better behaved -- I hope this is not a fantasy. Every so often I feel the training kind of "kicks in," they seem to know what is expected of them, and it's wonderful. Then there are the times when I think I might have to have them tested -- they just give me that "deer caught in the headlights" look. Has anyone had any success with Click-1 training? The technique I prefer is love/patience/praise, but it's not working with the STAY command. I'm also in awe of anyone who can let their JRT sleep in bed with them -- I'd be shredded flesh in no time! Anyone with the time and advice feel free to e-mail me directly.

When I went to a local adoption clinic last saturday, We had arrived fairly early. I was hopeful to find a small dog that I could take back to my apartment. While we waited for the doors to open, I observed that there were a few couples waiting around as well. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a women and her husband walking up to the information boothe with blaket in her arms. As she walked in the direction which the attendant had pointed out to her, I caught a glimpse of a beautiful face underneath that fuzzy blue blanket. I turned to my sister and told her, I have to have him. She said he was really cute and that he was probably there to get his shots. The couple returned shortly and stood back under a nearby tree. I told my sister I needed to pet him, and I walked directly over to them. I asked the lady in a half joking manner,"Are you dropping him off." She answered "yes" I could see the other couples approach having heard the answer. She asked, "Do you want to take him home." And without thinking I said "Yea!" She asked my name. And when I told her, they both laughed and said, "That is my daughters name." At this the couples disappeared. Turned out that they had purchased this beautiful Jack Russle Terrior Pup the saturday before, and their little girl turned out to be alergic. So, they decided to bring him to the adoption clinic. And lucky me, I took home Joey.

We have recently added a puppy to our JRT population of one. She is a delight and has shown signs of becoming a wonderful, mature and of couse, bright girl. Small and smart. Our couch potatoe older male has been responsible for many people to go and seek out a JRT for themselves. He was rescued from downtown Seattle and became a country boy and special companion. Unfortunately, my husband has claimed him so after quite a few years, I finally have one too. thanks for the site. it is great.

Hello, let me say i love your site.I am owned by two JR`s . . .
there names are jess age two years and tuffy age eight months. Both are power packed with energy!!and are always in for any kind of adventure.lately i have aquired a new job.Because of that my two little entertainers have became quite close and are seldom apart.Tuffy follows jessie every where and he has become oddly dependant of her which is strange for the breed. But quite comforting for myself and my girl friend. we both worried they would become bored with there surroundings and become somewhat lazy.but the opposite is what we found to be true with the help of a video camera. i recommend ocasionally tapeing your pets days alone at home. They act diffrently when they dont have to take care of there pets or when they let there pets out to play.

I recently purchased a Jack Russell Terrier, and find it so hard to be mad at him, due to his incredible adorability factor. I have even come to the point where I have to bring him to work in the basket which he sleeps in, because I can not bear to leave him at home. He goes basically everywhere with him. He is the cutest Jack Russell I have ever seen (keep in mind that I am biased for my puppy) His Name is Petie, and he is named after the Little Rascals Dog, because of his unique marking (a patch over his left eye, and that is all of the markings that he has). If anyone has any suggestions or ideas for me on how to train this puppy, or possibly to help me to take a stand against him, please e-mail me.
Thanks,
Ginger

We are about to become proud owners of our first JRT -- Bomber. He was born of 17 Sep 98, and is white and black, with a touch of brown in one his black spots located on his left eye. Since my son is extremely active -- i.e., soccer, Scouts, rollerblading, and just about anything else outdoors, they should be a great couple. He's been wanting a dog since he could walk, but with me being in the military it has been hard. We, as a family, have made the commitment to get a JRT and raise him with love and tenderness. Any pointers will be appreciated.

I have been visiting this site for quite a while now, and I really like it.
I have two Jack Russels: Phyllida and Portia. They are girl twins.
Portia likes lazing about in the sun, running through sprinklers and watching TV. Phyllida (or Phili, as we call her) likes playing footy, soccer and tennis, eating butterflies in mid-flight, and is a champion jumper. They both like barking, meeting old people, going for walks, posh food like 'My Dog', and talk back to Wishbone on the telly.
