The Jack Russell Terrier
GUESTBOOK

November and December 1996

Love your WEB SITE. I purchased the 1996 Jack Russell Calander last December and have enjoyed it all year long! I can't wait to get my 1997 Calander. I have two wonderful, full of life, Jack Russells - JJ and Trixie. They are 1 year apart and are half siblings. They bring such joy and laughter into our lives everyday! They never fail to cheer me up when I'm feeling down, they are always such happy dogs! I have owned other breeds (Retrievers, Huskys, Labs, etc..) and they don't compare to the Jack Russell's zest for life!

We have a 2-1/2 year old JRT, Gizmo, who is just a wonderful dog! She is quite a character = smart, lovable, rambunctious, strong, energetic, fun, etc. . . . I could go on and on. We love her to pieces and would be lost without her even though we tell her she is "nothing but trouble". She just wants our attention most of the time. She really knows how to coax us for attention when she thinks she is not getting enough. Sometimes we have to let her know that we are leading the pack not her. It's a lot of fun interacting with Gizmo. She has us laughing a lot. One of my favorite things to see her do is take a pill. She gets in a chair and sits for me. I put the pill to her mouth and she usually parts her lips a little so I can put the pill in her mouth. I gently hold her mouth shut until she swallows and then I praise her highly. She immediately runs to the pantry where her treats are stored because she knows she always gets a treat after taking a pill so well. My husband and I both feel that Gizmo is the best pet we have ever owned. And as I'm sure other JRT owners know, Gizmo doesn't know she's a dog _ she thinks she's a person. We just enjoy her immensely!

We would enjoy hearing from other JRT owners about their experiences. My email address is: pfields@utnet.utoledo.edu

Thanks for putting together your great web-site. You're products are great, and very much appreciated by me and all my Jacks. I currently have 6 in my house (mom, dad, and four puppies; one pup already moved to Charlotte, NC). As you can imagine, my house is a bit hectic at the moment as my little Tasmanian devils tear everything in their paths to shreads. Its all worth it, of course.

Love your WEB Site!!
We are the PROUD Dads of "Chipper" a 12 week old JRT.
Chipper has a brown patch over the left eye and a brown
right ear, short legs & hair, and a big heart. He loves
to play and go for long walks in Piedmont Park in Atlanta,
where he constantly stops traffic. (Voted BEST DOG in the
Park by several passers by today)We are getting very use to
doing more stopping & standing than walking when we are out.
We have even considered making a tape recording to play when
out on walks, ie.: "Jack Russell Terrier"..."12 weeks old"...
"Chipper"...etc. The attention is fun & Chipper loves it!
Looking forward to getting your calendar and lots of other
JRT things. May even submit Chippers Christmas card photo for
next years calendar. Can't wait to start training and join the
clubs. JRTs are certainly a social breed, as well as handsome,
smart, and loyal. Will truly enjoy being part of the pack.
Chipper says hi and licks.

Found your sight after wanting to know more about JRT's. This is our first JRT and her name is Brandy Wine, she is 4 months old. She is driving me crazy...can't seem to teach her to go outside to do her business and she is chewing up all my kids toys. Even tho...WE LOVE HER! My daughter recently developed an allergy and I'm hoping it's not Brandy. Love the breed.

We love our "Jack". He just had his 4th Birthday, and boy
did we celebrate!!! Party hats, a dog-bone cake, and a big
Happy Birthday to the boy who changed our lives, literally.
He's funny and smart and adorable. He's what I call a
virtual "lovebug". We've never had to discipline him, be-
cause he never causes us any trouble. He does seem to like
much larger female dogs though. The only problem I'm having
with him is that he has a tendency to gain weight very
easily. HELP!!! When I don't feed him treats, he acts
discusted with me, and sulks. Does anyone have any
suggestions? He's so incredibly handsome, well frankly,
I just don't want to spoil his "good looks".We're talking
5 lbs....NOW!!! E-mail to: deleen@cilabs.org

I have a 5 month old male---Trevor. He is a great little buddie. My dad surprised me last week when he announced he had just brought home a 9 week old baby girl JRT---Rose. Funny thing is...we both named gave them the same surname ... of Lidgate. Lidgate is the name of a small English village where my adopted sister's birth mother is from. It is beautiful place and we all knew her grandparents who lived there. Trevor has very defined ticking like a Britainy, with one black eye patch, one black ear and a speckled ear. He really is unique. People go nuts when the see him. Thanks for your time.

Yo' Jasper, your a real cute dude. Ever make it out to the great Pacific Northwest?

We could play with my soccer ball at my people's farm.

I even protected my lady owner from a black bear this summer. Ever seen a black bear snout-to-snout. Talk about ugggggly!!!
It got a litte angry when I chased it's cub. It's probably best my owner called me back.

See ya later!
Remember, follow your nose.

Hi from tropical north Queensland, Australia. We have two Jacks - a mother and daughter duo - Lucy-roo and Holland. We have also owned two males - Toby and Oliver - both whose lives were unfortunately taken when hit by cars. Lucy and Ollie had a lovely litter of pups in May 95 - Harry, Senga, Susie, Molly and Holland. All have gone to homes in the region - the Daintree Rainforest, Mission Beach, Mareeba and Cairns. We of course kept Holland. Anyway - we love our Jack Russells and our only gripe would be their barking at passersby of the canine variety. We have an 18 month old daughter, Zoe who was born three days after the pups. She is firm friends with Holland - giving her hugs and kisses all the time. Holland loves it. We are thrilled to discover your page. Keep giving us more JR news.

I got Oscar, my 21/2 yr.old JRT, when he was 11wks. old, and I wouldn't trade him for the world. There's nothing to compare to the uncondiontional love that I receive from him. The intelligence of this breed amazes me. When I feel like talking he seems to know, and just sits there and listens intently to everything I'm saying, almost like he understand me. I could, and have, gone on forever about the joy this little guy has brought into my life from the very first moment I got him.

I have a two year old one eyed Jack named Rocco who by his
own admission is the ruler of our street and the world at
large. He is our second JRT. The first JRT we bought used
(9 months old). We had him for two days. Then the original
owner's adult daughter calls and says the Dad and Mom are
too chicken to call but the Dad is heart broken and the Mom
will accept the dog including his appetite for her hard cover
books. Being the softy that I am I give the dog back (should
have charged the jerk more than I paid). So now I have two
crying kids and no JRT. Luckily the next week I came across
a JRT litter and the rest is history.

JRTs one day will rule the world.

I have a 6 year old JRT named Hobbes. He is the greatest little friend a man could have. Unfortunately, I can't see him all the time because I am divorced and my ex-wife has joint custody of him. Serious. It is even written in our divorce papers.
The JRT breed is the greatest. If I was to get another dog, the only breed I would consider would be the JRT.

My wife and I have a Jack Russell-Beagle mix and we love him like crazy. When we got him, we weren't sure what kind of dog he was but, with the help of the vet and some Jack Russell books, we discovered what he more than likely was. All his characteristics and his actions fit everything we've read and heard about J.R.'s. We have become very interested in J.R.'s and as a matter of fact we just received a calender, card, memo board, and a water and food bowl mat from you yesterday. It seems the only thing we recognize that our dog (named "Bandit" due to the black around his eyes) has different than J.R.'s is that he is prodominately brown on his backside rather than mostly white. Anyway, we couldn't ask for a better dog, and wouldn't either. You guys are doing one heck of a job, keep up the good work.

I have a very playful year and a half old Jack Russell named
Otis. He loves to play fetch and ride in the car. This is
the smartest dog I ever had. I my opinion Otis is a little
boy trapped in a dogs body. I also think I knew him in
another life. I told my husband not to make me choose
between him or Otis because he would probably lose.

We are very impressed with your home page. Our JRT's name is Chelsea
and she is trying to adjust to a new coast. She is quickly finding out
that chasing birds on the beach in Oregon is the same as it was in
Virginia Beach. She would like to say hello to her "children" back in Virginia:

We have just in the past week aquired our first JR, and we are amazed at how much fun they can be. The only problem is that he is rather snappy, and in fact he is quite destructive, how should we deal with this, tapping him on the nose only aggravates him more?

Love the Jack Page! My Jack's name is Remy. He is the son
of Winfield's Benson and Winfield's Fancy (Owner:Wendy Coles)
He is a large boy, standing 17 1/2" at the shoulder and
weighing in at a (big Jack!) 23 pounds! He's a lean, mean,
running machine. Love's his Tennis ball (As ALL Jack's DO!)
His colouring is mostly white with three tan spots on his
back. His head is very much like that of your Jasper with
just a touch more black on his muzzle.

Thanks for putting up a great page. I'll be sure to forward
a picture for the "Around the world in 80 Jacks" as soon as
I can keep Remy still long enough to shoot the pictures.
(Maybe a sleeping shot...hmmmm!)

This is a wonderful resource. I would like some advice as
to how to deal with our JRT, Carmela, who throws herself
against the car door when we leave her alone inside, and
even piddles on the seats! This has been going on for two
years!

She is our third JRT and the others all loved to ride and wait
in the car for us. Is there any hope?
Thanks in advance!

I have a JR who is 2 years old. He loves to run and have all
the fun he can. But today is a rainy day. In the morning
I let him outside without the leash (he doesn't run away)
When I opened the door he started running out, but in the
middle of the way he stopped and started walking back to me.
The reason is because he hates rain. He walked inside and
jupmed to his bed which is on my bed. Finally, after five
minutes I got him to go outside. I see him racing outside
to do his work and then racing back.

Hello. My name is Jody and I have a generally smart Jack Russell Terrier named Linus. He gets hysterical when I make that "pssssst" sound to get the cats off the counter. He usually falls down on the waxy kitchen floor. Linus always thinks he should be nice and warm under the covers at night and he doesn't like it too much when he has to sleep in his own bed. He doesn't always eat his dog food so one of my cats, Loosey, gets at it and this makes Linus so mad. Well, I like your newsletter and will be looking at it again soon. Bye for now. Jody (Age 9)

Hi there, we have the cutest little JRT called Jimmy. He is 3 1/2 years old. We like your page because our cat, who is usually Jimmy's friend, is called JASPER! Hi, Just found your website. I have a female 8mo.old JRT named "Abbey". We are experienced owners of the JRT, as we also had and 8 year old female who met with an accident in late June. It was not an easy time for the family, especially when the dog is here one minute and gone the next. We had a hard time convincing my husband to get another dog, (he was very close to the 8 year old). But finally, he agreed, and "Abbey" came into our home. She has been a joy, and "puppy kindergarten" helped out alot. Anyway, I would enjoy hearing from other owners. So E-mail me, okay?

Four years ago we adopted a JRT and named him "Herriot"
(after James Herriot the veterinarian/author). We thought
having a small, sweet, lively dog around would be good for
our two kids...He's turned out to be WONDERFUL to/with/for
them, and more!!! We're now hooked on Jack Russells!

For the past two years I've received your JR calendar for
Christmas (too bad I didn't get one this year -- I plan
to call in an order myself though) and have enjoyed the
pictures tremendously. I dream of getting Herriot's picture
into one of your calendars so we're working on getting some good ones.
At any rate, I just wanted to say "Thanks" for putting such
a nice calendar together every year, and now the website ... please
"Keep up the good work!"

So far they only have pictures, but hope to add stories, links and O.D.'s Christmas letters. Would love to hear from other Jacks and their people. Especially curious to hear if others have two males that get along together. OD & Bogie are best friends, sleep together, play together and get into trouble together. We have purchased our JR from the Pound a year ago, she was found wandering the streets. Her name is TESS, we have discovered what a wonderful little dog she is, so devoted and loving, and runs like the wind. We didn't know much about these little dogs, as we lost our Bordie Collie Dog the year before who was a grand 21 years old.
We were undecided about getting another dog, but we have not regretted buying TESS she has filled our lives with happiness and companionship.
