The Jack Russell Terrier
GUESTBOOK

January February
1997

Hi,
We recently adopted "Elli" a 3 year old Deaf JRT who is the light of our lives. She is absolutely the SWEETEST little girl!
We would love to hear from anyone who has had experience with a Deaf JRT, and also say to anyone who is considering adopting a Deaf dog not to let the deafness put you off. There are a few things you need to be aware of, but overall there is a greater reward than you'd ever imagine. This girl is a lover and a couch potato! If she didn't look so absolutly JRT I'd swear she was an imposter!
Happy New Year to all,
Erin and "Elli"

We own a Jack Russell by the name of "Kirby" who is the smartest
dog I have ever owned. This dog has more personality than most
people I know. He is truly a friend. We also adopted a
younger wire hair fox terrier who had no idea he was dog. He had
been owned by an elderly man who could no longer care for him and
who had probably never walked him let alone let him outside.
The first time the 4 of us went for a walk that lasted over 1 hr.
Scotty never relieved himself. He just didn't know what to do. Well
Kirby taught him everything. Scotty now plays with Kirby and can
amuse himself tossing his toys and chasing them. They are really
entertaining. They are buddies!

I love your web site. I have one JRT, her name is Kleo. She however thinks it is Queen. This is fine by me. I am a college student and wanted a pet for company. She has turned out to be all the company I need (my friends are all jealous of her). I've had her for almost two years and can't imagine life without her. The rest of my family feels the same. What would we do without these incredible bundles of energy? Our backyard has become a place where cats, squirrels, and even bugs fear to tread.

Love your site ... I got a JRT 2 years ago for my parents, and we all love her. Her name is Maggie Sue, and she has markings similar to the RCA dog. But the most beautiful thing about her, and all, JRs, is their wonderful personality and zest for living!

Hi, I'm Rusty (the 'Roo) from Hamilton. I yipped with glee when I discovered your website! My close friend, Sidney (a mutt, but JR wannabe) is also interested in learning more about dogs like me.

I'm a 4 year old smooth coat with a "rusty saddle" on my shoulders. I wish I knew how to throw my picture out there in the 'net. I tried barking, a little growling and some major wuffing, but to
no avail. Please help me!

Looking forward to reading more in the future. All the best, Rusty (xoxoxo).

Our loveable little girl SADIE is awesome. A few months ago I came home from work and heard Sadie yelping like I've never heard before.Well at first it didnt mean much because she always chases squirrels and would love to catch one, one day she will. But she was acting very strange around this one particular tree. She was acting like a crazy dog. I decided to see what was goin on ,at first nothing caught my eye but as I got closer she had sniffed out 2 bats sleeping on the tree trunk. They were about 6 feet up and she wanted them bad.I picked her up and let her sniff them closer and she was ready to eat them. We just ended up leaving the bats alone and had a great night watching them until they woke up and went hunting.

We have a 1 1/2 year old jack russell named Mickey. He is the typical jack russell in every way. He is loving and loyal, but very aggressive.
We also have a 95 pound lug of a black lab named Hogan who puts up with Mickey's harrassment on a daily basis. We love Mickey even though he
has caused alot of damage around the house. We have read alot of books and articles on the Jack's and have since learned who to control Mickey
and his rambunctious ways. Jack Russells are great dogs, but a very special breed that does require alot of attention from its owners. Any
interesting or enligthtening information you can send our way would be appreciated.

thanks

Hi Jasper! Wanted to tell you that I love your page. It sure is fun to see all of the other JR's who have funny stories to tell about their silly owners! My mom and dad are really cool, too. They bought me a lot of neat things from your catalogue for Christmas, even though I haven't been that good. I really like to watch mom
get mad when she sees how much of her sofa I've eaten that day. She said she is going to find out how to stop me from doing this. Listen! Don't give her any hints, please! Anyway, thanks for a neat new page. Love, Bear Salmond.

Hi, we love your page! We have a 1 1/2 year old Russell and her name is NIPSY RUSSELL. We love her. She is a constant source of entertainment/frustration. She's a mighty hunter. (2 mice, many spiders and chases bunnies) Her pals are Wheatty, Yoda, Milo (the evil cat next door), Barney and Cuddles. Hope to see everyone at the trails in Havre de Grace, MD in October.

What fun it was reading your page and responding to some of the fellow JRT folks. We even found some friends on the page!! We have a endearing family member named "Scuttlebutt." We have had many dogs but none of them have captured our hearts like our beautiful little JRT. We are hoping to add another family member this summer. Last summer we went to a JRT sanctioned event in Mont Pelier, Virginia and encountered the most gracious folks we have ever met. These people were most helpful and went out of there way to explain everything that was going on at the terrier trials. I guess there is a common bond among lovers of these little dynamos!! Continued sucess with your home page.

Very nice page. I just received a female JRT for the holiday
and I am already attached greatly. She is approximately 7
weeks old. I am hoping that some of the EXPERIENCED JRT
owners can lend some info my way in order for me to raise
her correctly... info concerning training, bathing, feeding,
stc. would be greatly appreciated. Also, anything that
will help me determine more about her... coat, habits, etc.
Thanks for the assistance. Kale Mayfield.

Thanks for such a fun site.
My little man "Milo" is a rescue JR. He was in 4 different homes before he came to live with me, just 5 days after his first birthday.
He was a very angry little boy, he would bite me and hide from me and was truly terror.
But as hard as is was in the beginning I just couldn't give up on him and I am glad I didn't. He is so smart and so lovable. He makes me laugh, he makes me mad, he makes me crazy and he makes me love him. He knows how to push all my buttons.
I have learned a great deal from this little guy and he is my loyal little friend. I'm so glad I hung in there.

So glad I found your web site. My JRT's name is Cosmo and he was given up by his owner because she is a single parent, working mother, and simply did not have time for him. They walked him by simply opening the door and turning him loose to roam the town. Cosmo is a neat dog, not hyper at all, and a great house dog. He throughly enjoys living in the country now. I will be getting a female puppy in the next couple weeks. They are super little dogs.

Love your page! I am owned by a 2yr. old JRT named Milo.
Milo has a full black mask & a big black spot at the base of
his tail. He knows all his toys by name, hates cats and
would rather play ball then do just about anything else. He
had to undergo the removal of part of his hip bone, but he
was a brave little trooper. EVERYDAY he finds something new
to make our family laugh. He loves to "bury" bones in the
house and push the carpet with his nose to cover the bones
in "dirt". He has fathered a litter and loves to play with
his son Macky who lives down the street. Milo runs to
Macky's house and barks at the door until they let him in!
You can tell I love my JRT! I'll be visiting this site
often!

Daphne for over a year now and can't imagine owning any other

Hello everyone! This may seem a little strange, for me to be signing our own GuestBook, but it's become such a JRT "community" thing that it's now as much a Jack Russell bulletin board as a GuestBook! I want to say that I really enjoy reading it myself, and I want to thank everyone for all your nice comments. We really do love hearing from you!
A few notes for the bulletin board . . . Please remember to include your snail mail address whenever E-mailing us, so that we can send you J-R info if you request it. Also, for lists of breeders - etc., you may contact the JRTCA at: 410-561-3655. It's our first night "surfing the net" and there's no better place to start than finding others who love their jacks! Our "Emmitt" (get it, Emmitt Smith, of the Dallas Cowboys?!!) is the greatest ball chaser ever!! He's 10 times quicker than the other Emmitt but doesn't get paid near as much. He's a short-haired, longest legs you've ever seen and weighs in at a whopping 23 lbs. He's just the greatest! We love you're web site and can't wait to see all the great info jack lovers have to offer.

Love this jack russell site. Don't have one in our family yet but we are looking for all the information we can get to decide if our family would be right to seek one as a pet. If anyone could advise me as to how jacks are with children and fitting them into the dynamics of family life if would love to hear from you. Thanks a bunch, future jack russell family, we hope.:)

My parents have a 9-10 month broken-coat tri-colour JRT. He is a live little bugger. They live in New Liskeard, Ontario ... where he loves to go fishing and hunting with my family. He is terrific with children, despite what anyone says about their inherited characteristics. He does chew, but he is doing it less with age and training. I think that you can train a JRT to do anything!, just be firm and consistent. If anyone has info. on history etc. of JRT's please send to: Percy Bates

I received my JRT as a "Thank You" gift. I am a horse trainer and helped their daughter win the AQHA Honor Roll. After telling her "no thanks" to her offer ( I have a 15 y.o. Cocker Spaniel) she sent the dog "Maggie" to me anyway. I have never had so much fun or enjoyed a dog as much as I have this one. She is my watchdog and companion. She is also fast friends with my 10 y.o. cat(who is as big as she is). I have raised this dog in a calm manner and it shows. She loves to play and does get wound up but calms down and will sleep on my sholder like a baby. She will be one y.o. on 03/30/97. Everyone says she looks like the dog in "The Mask". I am very proud of her and she goes to all the Horse Shows with me. I would be interested in registering her but do not know where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. Linda

Neat WebPage. I am a new JRT owner also. I love my little
girl Jazmine. Tomorrow she will be 20 weeks old! She is
the love of our lives, probably a little spoiled, too! I
am so excited to find out new info everyday about JRT's.
Other than seeing Wishbone on TV and always, my whole life
of 26 years, wanting a dog that looked just like "Nipper"
the RCA dog, I knew nothing about this breed before Dec. 96
I want to learn more and more. The pictures on this page
are so cute! Can't wait to see more!

My husband and I pondered over the question "get a dog or have a baby"! It took us a year to decide. We lost our dog to a hit and run driver and always felt the loss. There is nothing like having the love of a dog. Well, we decided to get a JRT after seeing a picture of them on the cover of a dog magazine. In the magazine was the name of a breeder who helped me pick out just the right one for me. (I never knew that one dog could come in some many different colors and styles) Schatze, our JRT, was flown to us from Tennessee. He arrived a tiny, spindly little angle with a smooth white coat and one black eye. Needless to say, we were all soooo captivated by him and immediately fell deeply in puppy LOVE! That was 6 mos. ago and we have never been so happy with any animal as we are with our little baby. My husband actually said on two occasions that he feels as though he gave birth to the dog. And also commented on that Schatze had my brains and his looks. I guess you could safely say that we consider Schatze more than just a "dog". I work out with Schatze on a regular basis with a long rope that seems to be his favorite toy. We call this activity "Puppyropeics". Schatze jumps to snatch the rope in his teeth and it's my job to swing him around. It's a tough workout for the both of us. It's really easy to love a JRT. But Schatze has that something extra. He is so smart that we were able train him to go in a litter box. He divised his own system of entering on one side and exiting on the other so not to step in anything. Upon completion of duty (pardon the pun) he prances over to my husband and gently reminds him that it is time to change the papers. There is nothing that Schatze could do wrong. I guess we're the ones that are spoiled now. JRT's are more than dog, they are "fur" people!

We are the proud owners of two wild and crazy Jack Russells: Maddie and Rockie. Since we got our computer in January, they have been most upset. They pace up and down in our home office with tennis balls in their mouths demanding that we get our faces out of the glow of the screen and take them out. We have tried balancing both of them on our laps as we surf the net...not a comfortable sight! But once we found your website...all is well. We have really enjoyed it. Glad to know there are other Jack Russell fans out there...with good information and stories to tell.

The summer before I left for university, our Golden Retriever of 15 years past away. Two weeks later I talked my parents into going to see some Jack Russell terriers at a breeding farm.
Needless to say, "Murphy" pretty much took my place at home and has stolen everyone's hearts. She is the smartest, funniest and quirkiest animal I have ever seen and I miss her terribly while I'm at school.
Your website is great! It makes me homesick to go home and see my 6 year old dog who still acts like a "puppy"!

Hi!
I can't remember if I signed the guestbook or not, so here goes. . . I had a Jack Russell, Pooh, for 8 years. She was my daughter, my best friend, the best dog I've owned. She recently passed away, very unexpectedly, I can honestly say it was the worst loss I've ever experienced. I miss her dearly, as does the rest of the family. I will be looking for a puppy towards the end of May and would really appreciate it if anyone with any information could email me. I am looking for a "Classic" JRT, short; 8 - 10", smooth coat, and STOCKY. Out of respect for Poohsy, I would like to wait a bit, rather than replace her, but anyone with any information on any litters that will be born sometime in April, PLEASE CONTACT ME! I know and love the breed and promise to provide an excellent family for the new baby! Thank you! Lisa

My very first JRT puppy is arriving at my home on March 3rd. She is a female, the runt of her litter and I've named her "Journey". We have a farm now with lots of animals but we will be moving to another county to a bigger and better farm which is in JRT territory. I am 55 years old, have raised and trained two Dobermans, a Great Pyrenese, a Standard Poodle and a German Shepherd in addition to many horses. I'm quite excited.

We are looking to purchase a dog. We are considering
a Jack Russel but we don't know very much about this breed.
We don't really want a dog that is overly rambunctious

consider an older Jack Russel as opposed to a pup? Thanks for

My family and I are new JRT owners. I received "Chili" as a
Christmas present from my husband. (One of the best presents
I've ever received!!). Chili is 4 1/2 months old now. He is
very calm compared to some of the stories I've been reading
from other JRT owners. Chili lives with 2 cats and our dog.
Many people have warned us of the dangers of having a JRT with
another dog. (Our other dog is a Rottie). We watch them
closely, and everything seems to be going "too" good. Most of
Chili's day is spent sleeping in the sun. He does, however,
like to chase our cat around the living room from time to time.
He sleeps nights in his crate and housebreaking seemed to be
an easy endeaver for Chili and me. Does this sound like
too much of a good thing?? I hope not!!

Just found you and I think I'm going to enjoy this site. I was looking up the "Brown Tree Snake" and found that there is a snake patrol in Guam that uses at least one JRT to catch and destroy. That got me surfing and led to your site. I'm gratified to see a picture of a black and white JRT for a change. Jake is our 2 year old and we love him so much my wife brings him to work. He's become the company mascot. He does this thing we call the "butt tuck" which just kills us (we're simple people). It's just a fast, almost out of control, run around the house in which he tucks his butt while he bolts back and forth and bounces off furniture.
He is also featured on our web site. If you'd like to see Jake, you can leave him a message at: www.abacus.ghj.com/Abacus/Dogs/DPApl.html (be sure to go to the bottom of the page for the best picture)

What a great site! I ordered a JRT Catalog from Lucy's site and got it in today's mail...I immediately had to check out this site.

My husband and I adopted a border collie/terrier mix from the Humane Society 3 years ago. That dog has given us so much joy...he is a true terrier in spirit! We have long admired the Jack Russell and are hoping to adopt one at a later date. I have heard about the Russell Rescue from a friend who lives in Maryland. What a terrific service for these wonderful little dogs.

I plan on visiting this site often...thanks so much!

Kelsey is our six month old JRT. She is spoiled rotten as I'm sure your's are, too! She means very much to us and her older schipperke brother, Caleb, who is one year and six months old. We bought a Jack Russell March 1996 and never realized at that time how important that dog would become. She is a joy to be with and has provided countless hours of enjoyment for my husband and myself not to mention the grandparents!!! (we don't have children yet, so KIRA is the grand"puppy"). And let me say she is just as spoiled as any kid would be!!! We had a birthday party for her Feb1/97 with presents, cake and guests!! What a riot!
If anyone is in doubt about adopting a JR in their home, I must admit that we would be lost without our little baby now. She is loving and loyal, comical and entertaining, and very intelligent. It's amazing the vocabulary she knows already!

Hi everyone, we are New Zealand JRT fans. We have two. Casey & Co (otherwise known as Cojack). They're very different, I don't know if it's a female/male thing or if they all have very different personalities, I suspect the latter to be the rule. The site is wonderful, Thanks from lil ol NZ.

Hello!

I am a Jack Russell Terrier and I am 14 years old. I just love to play with all my toys, I love food and I really hate to go out when it rains!

Bye, bye dogfriend!

We are the proud "parents" of a 6 month old JRT named Sparky. He's a great dog, very smart. He just has a dominance problem and doesn't listen very well. He's starting obedience school shortly, but we were wondering if anyone had any advice for us in the meantime? Thanks for all your help!!

3 yr old Queen Sophie trys to be a good girl. She is a fixture between me and my husband and very protective of her home and family. She makes us laugh everyday, which is good for our souls. We ADORE her and all her antics.

Hi,
I have a 7 year old jack russell named Lucy. She is great!
We have a farmers market here that everyone visits on Saturdays and Lucy loves to go with us. She is the talk of the farmers market. She also loves to take rides to the bank, because the bank tellers always but a dog cookie in the tube to send back to her. One time the tellers were taking a long time sending the tube back and Lucy barked twice at them as if to say" Hey whats taking so long and hurry up with my cookie" The teller said over the speaker, " I hear you Lucy, its coming"
Anyway, that all,

Thanks,
Robin and Lucy
