I am the owner of "SUDS," a short-haired, short-legged JRT that will be one year old next week. Suds has not fallen asleep in this one year of life that I know of.
He has a baby brother or sister on the way in a couple of months.(How are JRT's with children?)

How can we find out for sure? We are not able to contact Sheba's previous owners. Our vet isn't sure. Sheba's a very sweet, loving and very alert dog. Can anyone help us?

Thank you for such a fantastic site. A must for any J.R. lover. We have two amazing J.R.T.'s, -- Jake and Abe. They are the light of our lives. We were having a discussion the other night regarding our boys and the fact that they think they are at least 150 lbs., thank goodness they are only 14 lbs., or they would probably rule the entire world! They already rule ours--- as they are the best friends, companions, comedians anyone could ever ask for. They are the most intelligent, loving and fun creatures that we have ever known. When you get to know a J.R., you know that you've been blessed.

SINGAPORE - Wednesday, March 05, 1997 at 00:00:23 (PST)Hello! I am very new to JRT's. I purchased a puppy a month ago, and I just love him. His name is Zippy. And he is just that. If he's not playing he's sleeping on my lap. I am also looking for someone in my area who competes or shows jrts. I am interested in learning about that also. Keep up the interesting web pages, I'm learning so much from them.

Howell, MI - USA - Wednesday, March 05, 1997 at 08:39:57 (PST)We have a very cute 25 week old jack russell terrier in my opinion, but he protects my mom too much! When I leave to school Kobi (that's his name) won't let me give my mom a hug. He loves being roudy and playing with any skweakie toy. We also have a Dalmatian named Sammie and he picks at her so much she just snaps at him, then he leaves her alone for a while. My dad calls him "God *#%$ Jack Dog." What really sucked was that he was really quiet and didn't refuse anything the book said a good dog would do, but up until this day he's been so active since we got him. He runs around the house every morning barking at 5:00 A.M. and is really annoying.

Johannesburg, SOUTH AFRICA - Thursday, March 06, 1997 at 11:01:38 (PST)We are thoroughly enjoying your JRT site and have actually responded to some of our new e-friends -- a first for our household.
Fascinating to see the international nature of our loved friends.
Our jack, Jackie is eight years old. We think Jack is ready to welcome a new friend into the house. It seems many homes have become accustomed to a multiple Jack lifestyle. Please assist us in determining whether our girl would prefer another female or a male partner. Our friends with two males seem to enjoy making each other bleed on a regular basis -- this we would like to avoid.
Write a short note to us describing how a new female puppy may survive in our home -- is it the right thing to do?

Calgary, AB - CANADA - Friday, March 07, 1997 at 20:19:12 (PST)Hi!
We are also owned by a great JeRTie named Professor Longhair (even though he is a smoothcoat!) This little guy rules the house- including our 1 1/2 yr. old german shepherd "Bella"! Professor is the love of our life, watches Wishbone on TV, curls up in the crook of his Daddy's arm like a baby to get his tummy rubbed, and goes "underground" at night- he sleeps under the covers of our bed! Talk about spoiled! Bella just loves him and the two of them are like Mutt and Jeff! Just thought we'd add our two cents about how much we love our little guy! JeRTies are the best!!

Kitimat, BC - CANADA - Sunday, March 09, 1997 at 17:41:56 (PST)Hi! Help! My family and I live with an 18 month old JRT named
Marley. Up until 2 months ago, he was a great dog. And to me, he
is wonderful... I'm his main squeeze. But, to my husband and my
3 year old son, he is not! I'm starting to think he has a split
personality. He'll be loveable one minute, then turn around and
growl and show his teeth at you the next. He has also bitten my
husband once and my son about four times. Does anyone out there
know why??? Or have you experienced anything similar???
He is neutered, by the way, - the Vet said it would help.
I haven't seen any change. We give him lots of love and
affection, play with him all the time, you know, treat him
like a family member. We adore him, and want him in our lives
forever ... so, what can we do to fix his moody behavior???

Beaverton, OR - USA - Tuesday, March 11, 1997 at 15:07:17 (PST)Hello,
My wife and I acquired a JRT puppy eigth months ago as a wedding present.
(I gave it to her) And, it has been one of the best decisions of my life.
My wife and I are both Virginia Tech graduates (go Hokies!!), so, like all
true VT alumni, we named our JRT: Hokie.
Lo and behold, we did not know what we were getting ourselves in too.
We have the most expressionistic and lively dog that I have ever
seen. He is a joy to our lives. Hokie seems to be true to the JRT
breed. He is a hunter (really hunts after ground rodents), a runner,
and a reasonably intelligent dog. He has been easy to train, but
impossible to tame!!
Anyway, we are now interested in breeding Hokie. He has come of age
and we want to stud him. We will stud Hokie, if we may have the pick
of the litter female puppy with the next male stud. (don't like
inter breeding).
If you are interested, please email me at the address provided above.
-Thanx

Does anyone elses JR love to sunbathe? My fiance and I bought him in Ashland, OR, at the Mountain Gate Stables. He is the biggest joy in our lives, and I dont think I will ever do without a JR again. Ours loves to watch TV and sleep under the covers with us. His favoret food is carrot. He and our black lab are the best of friends. We had a hard time housebreaking him. Did anyone eles have a hard time training their JR? Chester and I will keep our eyes out for new news about or favoret breed, The Jack Russell Terrier! Jennyfer Roth <roth1043@tao.sosc.osshe.edu>
Talent, OR - USA - Friday, March 14, 1997 at 15:57:12 (PST)My JRT is named Jaxon after his favorite country music star
Alan Jackson. He listens to CMT whenever I am gone. He is
probably the most unusuall JRT as he is approximately 60%
black, face and back, white neck, belly and feet with a
little white eye lash across his rear end. I tend to think
of him as dressed up in his tux as apposed to not able to be
registered because he is not 51% white.

Stockholm, SWEDEN - Monday, March 17, 1997 at 13:03:15 (PST)Tilly, my 8 month old J.R., is the love of my life. She is so quick to learn and has the best personality. My brothers J.R., Duni, is already the great hunter at the age of 10 months. With markings like the famous Wishbone, he is very irresistable. Both of them can track like hounds. What a pleasure they are!

Sligo, PA - USA - Tuesday, March 18, 1997 at 19:10:58 (PST)I first would love to say, how much I love the web site.
I own a J.R., his name is Bazzle Dazzle, Bazzle for short,
he is everything a J.R. should be. I would also like to
say, now that Jack Russell Terriers have become so popular,
it seems that everybody and their dog wants one.
One comment I read, said that they were interested in
getting a dog, and that after checking out this web site,
they saw pictures of Jack Russells and they knew that was
the dog they wanted. Well if everybody thought that, there
would proably be no other dog breeds in the world. I live
in a relatively small town, and am one of only three very
proud J.R. owners. An individual who's last name is Russell
called me on the phone (My Vet. gave him my number) and said
that he wanted one, 'cause of the name coincidence. To make
a long story short, I told him that he needs to do his
research, J.R.'s are VERY demanding. Unfortunately, that is
why the Russell Rescue is doing so well. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!

Boston, MA - USA - Sunday, March 23, 1997 at 20:44:42 (PST)My husband and I are picking up our new male JRT from the breeders on Saturday. I am really concerned about some other websites that have put a damper on my excitement. I live in a condo, but my puppy will be traveling to work with my husband daily. The parents of our puppy seemed very well natured the hour we spent with them and the puppy as well. The only real concerns that we had were proper training and the new puppies relationship with my cat. But, the other site made me scared that I won't be able to control this dog as well even with training. Where can I get some good advice on training?

Perth , WA - Australia - Tuesday, April 01, 1997 at 03:04:14 (PST)HI! My name is Viivi. I have a JRT named "NoNo". She is 4 years old and she's short-haired and her colour is tricolour. She's had puppies twice, and now she has new puppies again. She's really funny sometimes. If you have a JRT, I would love to be your pen-pal.
My address is: Viivi Halonen, @ MÄNNISTÖNTIE 55, FIN-79100 LEPPÄVIRTA, FINLAND. By the way, these JRT-pages are really good!

LEPPÄVIRTA, - FINLAND - Tuesday, April 01, 1997 at 06:36:31 (PST)This has been the most exciting experience I've ever had on the net.
Our JRT's Fagus (mom), Ginkgo (babe) and Aart (Superstud) will try to give us a nice photograph to send to you.
Again, my compliments.

Zundert, NB - Holland - Tuesday, April 01, 1997 at 12:45:57 (PST)My JR's name is "Maxie." We don't really know how old she is,(a guess is around 10 yrs old). She and I adopted each other four years ago. She had was abandoned and abused. Since being with me, she has learned to play and enjoy life and people. These dogs are the best! I plan to get another as soon as I find a place to live where there are no cats. Here's a warning- do not leave your Jack Russell alone with your cat. The dog may get bored, and then.....

Great Falls, USA - Wednesday, April 02, 1997 at 14:45:13 (PST)My JRT is 2 years old. His name is Fred. Fred started this game with us on his own... He plays "hide-n-seek with his dog cookie. First he will hide it then come to us so we will look for it. We find the cookie then we hide it-Fred then finds it-we do this back and forth for quite a while. He loves to watch us play pool. We are looking for a really "fine" female for him. I have been looking thru the JRT of America directory of breeders for female puppies-can anyone recommend a really "fine" lead?

Nassau, Bahamas - Friday, April 04, 1997 at 10:47:45 (PST)My puppy,Quincy (named after John Quincy Adams) will be one
year old on the July 4, 1997. He is black and white with grey
dapples.
He was hard to house train, but we got him some doggy diapers
& placed them at the doors - his instinct was to go to the door,
but before you could let him out-he did his business on the floor.
He got so he only went on his pads, but after he was neurtered
he had several accidents for the first few days he was home
I guess that was his comment on visiting the vet.
He is presently 16 lbs and stands 15". he lives to run
around our back yard even when it is -20 celius.
We came home from work the other day to find the valance from
our vertical blinds on the floor and the end was chewed. He had
managed to pull the blinds the wrong way on the windows.
Not too sure how he did that.
We have an older neutered male (Heinz 57) who Quincy likes to
torment on a regular basis. He has gotten quite vicious with him
on occasion. We couldn't figure out why -- I put my groceries
on the floor from the car, and I can only guess that he was
guarding them from Mani. He didn't get into the meat or anything
but certainly didn't let the other dog get near them either.
He eats just about everything (including his cardboard toy
box) he likes Kiwi fruit, loves oranges, apples, grapefruit,
bananas. His favourite toy is an empty plastic pop bottle.
Well, Life sure hasn't been dull since we got our JT.

Sault Ste Marie, ON - CANADA - Friday, April 04, 1997 at 19:08:13 (PST)I need some advice from experienced JRT owners. I am considering a puppy but I'm having second thoughts after reading every bit of JRT info. I can find on the net. Here is my situation. I live w/ my husband, 3 children and 9 yr.old chocolate lab on about one acre in a small rural town. I have roaming the proprety 4 cats(who also come indoors), 12 chickens, 2 muscovy ducks, and 4 domesticated rabbits. I also have 2 pygmy goats in a fenced barnyard. The entire property is fenced to contain all my critters. We also have a pond. I must also mention that besides loving animals and creating comfortable habitat for them, I have a passion for gardening and have beautiful gardens all over the property. Considering all this, I'm concerned about a JRT and animal chasing (mauling?) and garden digging. Are my concerns justified? Am I a poor prospect for JRT ownership? THANK YOU for any advice forthcoming.

Brownsville, OR - USA - Saturday, April 05, 1997 at 09:57:31 (PST)Well, we are new to the Internet and I found your wonderful
site. We have a beautiful little JR girl who will turn 3 in
July this year. She is a terrific companion and the biggest
mooch for attention and food that you will ever meet. Her
name is Nuzzy, short for nuzzling. Our first few days with
her were spent worrying if she was happy, comfortable and
feeling secure. Two days later, still with no name, I awoke
looking all over for her. I whistled until my face was blue,
hoping she would look up. With no avail I woke my husband up,
who was sleeping on a foam matress in the livingroom floor,
(we didn't want to leave her alone her fist few nights), and
lo and behold there she was. Asleep in the nape of my husband's
neck all nuzzled into a tiny ball. Thus Nuzzy was named. She
has a 2 year brother. He's a samoyd and black lab cross. Well
we are so happy to have found your site and are looking forward
to visiting often.

He has just started obedience training and is doing very well.
He loves to play nonstop with his rubber kong and will not let us
ignore him. He loves to lick your face and won't take no for an
answer. Would love to hear from other JRT'S. There's not too many
in Montreal to share JRT stories with.

Brossard, Quebec - CANADA - Sunday, April 06, 1997 at 07:13:58 (PDT)Hi, My family's JRT "Chewie" died recently (we lost our JRT "Chewie" after a car accident). My children, my husband and I are heartbroken. We are considering a new puppy to join our family. If anyone knows of any reputable breeders or dealers in the Southern MD area it would be greatly appreciated. We would really like a new puppy to love. My children miss him so much and so do I.

Dameron, MD - USA - Sunday, April 06, 1997 at 21:03:59 (PDT)Our "Cody-bear", "Motor-coder", "Codster"...that's one JRT with multiple personalities, is the bestest. I'd say the love of our life but our children
would take offense. She's a year old and while she was a challenge up to
six months, she has been a pleasure, and improves daily. See her picture
at our website.... and then you'll know she's just perfect. Lois <Lois@redshack.com>
Placerville, CA - USA - Monday, April 07, 1997 at 14:37:59 (PDT)Our little guy, Murphy, is almost 1 year old. He is a long legged,loving, tenacious, typical JRT. His favorite activities include, in no particular order;
chasing squirrels
playing with Amanda, my daughter, he loves when she reads to him

watching Baywatch with me
going for walks
playing with the other dogs in block, especially Spike a 90lb basset mutt mix
driving in the car, no I don't mean riding I mean driving!
helping me or my wife around the house, he's especially good at yard work!
He has become such a wonderful part of our lives.

USA - Friday, April 11, 1997 at 13:34:30 (PDT)Greetings from New Zealand, We have a JRT called Polly she is 9 years old and has survived the raising of a human child easily. She does not like it when anyone trys to growl at or touch the 3 girls in our house and also the next door neighbours daughter. She has bitten the man of the house next door when he was chasing his daughter for fun. Polly or Doodle or Pollywally or Polls is very obedient and has quite a variety of 'tricks' including boogie boarding. She loves to terrorise any one who passes the house and especially anyone foolish enough to ride a bike past the gate. She has a terrible habit of stealing the kids toys and sneaking them into her bed to chew on at her leisure. A cat chaser and birds as well. She now has a JRT friend next door and has mothered Jamie and taught her the same tricks. Does any other dog out there like to drag him/her self along on the grass or carpet??? Thanks for reading me.

Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - Friday, April 11, 1997 at 23:59:14 (PDT)My wife and I just love our 2 y/o JRT, Augie!
Do the words smart, energetic and, mischievous mean anything to you?
If Augie decides that he is not finished playing with me, he will run upstairs and somehow find a pair of my socks in the clothes hamper
so that I'll have to "play" a new game called Chase Augie around the House.

If Augie isn't finished playing or if he feels that we are not showing him enough attention,
he will run upstairs, find his way into the clothes hamper for a sock, to "play" a game he invented
called Chase Augie around the House! Just in case you were wondering, he gives back the sock when he is ready. Nick Graziano <grazianw@erols.com>

and white 11 1/2 inch (small) lady with an incredibly cute
face. My owner and my granny's owner are trying to get a
JRTCC affiliated club in the Ottawa area started and would
like to hear from other JRT owners interested in helping
out. Purpose of the club would be for information and to
bring people together with their dogs for fun and for
trials. E-mail me if you are interested (we hope to get
club started by this summer) and if would like to be on the
mailing list for information about upcoming events.

Hamilton, CANADA - Tuesday, April 15, 1997 at 18:03:27 (PDT)I love my JRT! She's a little over a year and she's sleeping on my lap while I'm typing right now. She gets tired of me hanging out on the computer all the time when she's ready to go to sleep. Unlike some of the other JR's that I read about, she's an angel and always listens to us. She's very lovable and good with my son.

She loves playing ball so much that she will bring it to you while

beam of the flashlight around for which she came in 2nd for a local

We have a bundle of energy called Annie, as absolute wiggle-worm, and the toughest thing in the neighborhood. She loves to play with our Akita, and challenges the horses for "kicks". She could give someone gray hair very easily. We had another Jack Russell, but he's been missing since last September, and we're still hoping to find him. Thanks for the web page. It's a great way to see other Jacks and learn more about this energetic little dog!!

TX - USA - Tuesday, April 22, 1997 at 14:47:47 (PDT)We have a three year old JR, she is named Candy. THis is
quite a contradiction, as she is rather naughty.
She loves rabbit hunting adventures, children and Teddy Bears.
She also likes to sleep on the pillow next to her 'master'.
She is the best time waster you could ever imagine, we spend
hours watching and laughing at her antics.
JR's are a loving, fun, independent, and a rewarding breed..
we would recommend one to anyone.
We are pleased to see that others also enjoy their JR
experience.

Johannesburg, Gauteng - SOUTH AFRICA - Sunday, April 27, 1997 at 09:43:22 (PDT)"Basil" (like in "Rathbone" not the spice) is five months old and the love of my life. I haven't owned a dog in 20 years and somehow I knew that a JRT would be the only dog for me. I was so right. Although "demanding" Basil is my constant companion. We both get plenty of exercise. I've been surprised by the wide variety of JRTs out there. Basil has long legs, a white body with spots on his "skin" but not on his fur. He has a tri-color head. I tell him he's "mostly perfect" just so he doesn't get too conceited. Actually, he's perfect in all ways.
Thanks for the great website!

Bruxelles, BELGIUM - Sunday, April 27, 1997 at 14:21:03 (PDT)We have the most precious little 3 yr. old boy that is totally loved to death around here. He's not the least bit aggressive with people. Loves to hunt and chase and give french kisses if he can get away with it. One of the funniest things he does is the way he drys himself after a bath. He shakes, puts his butt in the air, his head sideways on the carpet and runs around like that all over the place til he's drier. It's a riot. Another funny thing he does is: hanging off of the neck fur of our German Shephard as she's chasing a ball. After a bath, he shakes, puts his butt in the air, his face sideways on the carpet and runs all over the place like that til he's dry. He's hysterical.!. We hope to get another sometime soon. We'll never have any other breed. Susie Flak <ZANNY1252@aol.com>
