G'day from Australia ... Some months ago we bought for our seven year old, a puppy we named this gorgeous fella Foxie because we were told "yes he is absoloutley a pure Mini. Fox Terrrier" but guess what he is more JRT than Foxie. Everyone was saying what a gorgeous little Jack at Doggy School and now I feel a little silly calling him Foxie.

This site is great because we had researched mini foxies after buying baby, but now need info on Jacks. My little man who is 8months old is as nearly as spoilt as my other baby (my human son), as cheeky as any toddler, and is driving my cats mad as he keeps rounding them up - a bit like "Babe" the sheep dog/pig. But most of all he is a great friend.

I would like any info about JRTs especially training (just like my son, he won't listen to anything his mother says) JRTs and children. My email number is: ntonn@melbpc.org.au
Thanks again for your site

Bye From Nicole

I am looking to find a JRT puppy. I live on 8 acres with two out buildings. There is also a woods connected to the property.
There is plenty of space for the JRT to be him/her self. I would appreciate any help in locating a good breeder within distance
of Central OHIO. Thanks for the space about JRT's. I am looking forward to a relationship with my future friend.

I have a precious 12 week old female JRT named Emeline. We call her Emmy for short and Princess Emeline when she is being spoiled. My mother in law Chris Denning is a breeder of JRT's in Eugene, OR. She has a star dog named Buddy. He is the 1996 JRT champion. Through her training and knowledge I have a strong love of the breed. JRT's are the best!

Wow...this site is great! My husband and I have owned a JRT
for 3 years...her name is Sidnie. This JRT is a person (you
could not tell her anything different). She lays in the sun
every morning (without fail), sleeps in our bed (with her head
on her own pillow), eats, drinks and talks with us!

Although I will never own another bread, anyone interested
in JRT's need to be certain they can devote the time that
is necessary to care and love these little animals (I won't let
her hear me say that!).

Enjoy!

Tapio (Indian translation: Lord of the Forest) is 9 months old and the best "dog" decision we ever made. A wonderful companion, and always entertaining!!! He chases flashlights around the living room, loves to jump in the shower with us, makes our cats' life a living hell. He house-trained himself at 4 months old, and he brings us his food bowl when it's empty. His favorite treat is jumping after helium balloons in the living room. Truly a GREAT BREED!

Hi again --
I wrote to you all a few months ago when I was looking for a JRT puppy after mine passed away in December. I just wanted to tell you that I have found not one, but two JRT babies! Maya, is my little girl, and I also have her brother, Coochees. I sat with these guys for 4 hours, trying to decide between the two, and now, they both have a new home! They are wonderful, and I hope to get some good photos for you guys, as they are FULL of photo opps! Maya is really different, they are smooth coated and short legged, but Maya's got this dark brown coloring on her face and back, almost a brindle. I have known the breed all of my life and have never seen anything like it, it's almost a chocolatey bay... her muzzle is black and then the rest of her head fades into this rich brown. I've heard that in England this color is more popular, have you ever seen a JRT w/this color? Of coarse she is white also, but I just think she's truly unique, coloring and PERSONALITY. Keep up the good work and we'll be ordering 2 collars as soon as they stop growing so fast!

We are about to adopt a 6 week old (male) jack russell terrier. my sister sparked our interest in the breed and the more we learn about jack russells, the more we can't wait to get him -- I think we might name him Elvis (if it fits his personality), but I also think Popeye is a good name because some JR terriers look like the cartoon character! if anyone has any other suggestions for a name, please email me.

We belong to a JRT named Daphne. She lets us sleep in her bed and use her house to live in... Daphne's goal in life to do all the bodily harm she can to our Australian Shepherd, Sybil. If Sybil so much as moves, Daphne attacks her. Sometimes it is not a pretty sight! Daphne is 4 years old and Sybil is 9 and I would welcome any suggestions as to how we might keep Daphne from killing Sybil! A friend calls them "Jack Rascal Terrorists." That's true, but aren't they great!

Great Website! I've only just found it!
I do have a general question however - do you have a source where I can establish where/when there are JR trials and/or any other JR group activities/competitions in S. Massachusetts or Rhode Island?

My JR's name is: Tuscar 8, thoroughly intuitive and intelligent, my best friend and soulmate.
Petal 5, Tuscar's mate, very intuitive, moderately intelligent and loves herself beyond belief!
Ginger 3,(Tuscar and Petal's puppy)Female - chip off the old block (Tuscar) I'm glad to say. Undersized, makes presence felt by being very pushy and vocal. They get more attention than most humans I know!
Regards to Jasper.

I am new to the Internet and I found your wonderful site. My boyfriend and I have a beautiful little JR male
named Kelly. This was our Christmas gift. Kelly is 7-months old. Kelly is short haired, completely white coat with tan colour patches around both eyes and beautiful Cleopatra eyes. He is a terrific companion and he loves to nuzzle.

He loves people. I live in an apartment and when my buzzer would ring from downstairs, Kelly at 2-months new that guests would be arriving. He would wait patiently at the door
for them. Kelly loves to kiss and kiss and kiss. Oh and he loves
baths!!!!

Thanks for a REALLY great web site dedicated to a great breed of dog and
our constant companions! I will send you some pictures of Kelly.

We have an 18month-old JRT named Maxi. She is best friends and
a partner in crimes with our 4yr old daughter. We definately
love having her. Unfortunately, we haven't always been able to
give her the exercise and attention she needs (which is a LOT).
And she has made us PAY for it, litterally, by replacing the parts of
our home that she has destroyed. I hope that anyone considering one
as a pet will keep that in mind. I would love any suggestions
on toys that she will not destroy in 48 hours. So far all I've got
(left) is a mini basketball. By the way, I love this page.

We have a Jack Russel Terrier named Daisy-Head Maisy.
Our JRT has a addiction to lighters and matches. We think she
was an arsonist in her past life. The dog is sooo BAD. She
will not sleep unless she is under the covers. She is a typical
female, always has to have the last word when barking.
She is potty trained until we walk out the door, SPITEFUL.

Hello All!
I just found this site today and I think it's great! I have two JRTs.
Ellie Mae is the momma and Jed is her son. Yes, I wanted to keep
the Clampett theme going! They are both short legged, short haired
beautiful kids. Jed is about 2 months old and sitting on my lap as
I type this. I got Ellie from my sister-in-law who has her mom and
her sister. I hear so many horror stories about JRTs, but I
have found nothing but happiness in my KIDS WITH FUR COATS! They may
be handfuls sometimes, but what kids aren't! I am crate training Jed
right now. I would like to see some feedback about how that has worked
for others. Thanks!!

Hello Everyone! My name is Chipper! I'm a nine month old
short-leg JRT. After I was named, I learned I have the same name
as the famous RCA dog. What makes it even stranger is:
I have the exact same markings. And even though I'm not famous,
I seem to be a huge hit with my daddies-- Sean and Jeff.
There is 1 problem however... my white ear is standing on end ...
and I don't know why!. Is there anything that I can do to solve
this problem? Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks...SEE YOU IN THE MOVIES!

I think that this the coolest site for all of us JRT lovers to visit ...
I have a short-legged JR, and he is the greatest. I think that everyone
should have one of these guys in there house, or where ever they go... My guy's name is Humbug. He is a three year old and is black,
white, and tan. He really likes tennis balls, to chase, chew, and sometimes,
to mangle... hee hee. He is such a card, but he is so adorable that i just can't
resist him... he is just like a kid!

After having dogs most of my adult life I decided to be dogless after I lost my last pet. After 5 years of being without a dog I have become the proud parent of a JRT. This dog has literally changed my life. If I had read about the JRT traits beforehand I would have been afraid to get one. Not that it's not true, but somehow the good far outweighs the bad. I would highly recommend the breed and I will never be without one of these loveable scamps in my life.

My JRT, Griffon is one of the first of his kind here in Lugano (Switzerland). His spunk and adorableness have inspired several strangers around town to purchase Jack Russells of their own. Also, Griffon is quite a world traveler, AIR FRANCE is the best because they allow dogs into the cabin (!) so they can stay with their mom and dad wherever they go.

We are currently looking for a female to start breeding JRTs.
We have owned many breeds in the past, but there isn't another

Kenan into our home.

Today I received the 1997 Jack Russell catalog. I was very pleased. I' m waiting for a JR pup. Mine will (hopefully) be born the 17th of June. I asked for a male. It will be a pup of the JRT male Rojen Maximus who was imported from Australia. The father of the female is Slide. I hardly can wait. I hope that there will be guests from Australia who will recognize Rojen Maximus (now living in Asperen, Netherlands), and have stories about him.
Hope to hear from other fans soon, good luck with the site.

It is nice to have a site that does not put down our wonderful little dog.
We have owned Jack Russells for 6 years, now. Our male, Victor, is a cracker-jack obedience dog. His "wife", Betsy,
is the sweetest thing going. They live peacefully with our two house cats and several birds. They are also great with our children. It is all a matter of raising your puppy with good discipline.
If anyone in the northwest is interested in a well-bred and socialized pup, we have three available.

My parents recently purchased a JR terrier. Her name is Miss. T, she is 6 months old and spoiled rotten! :-) She has really been a lot of fun. These dogs are so intelligent, and so lovable, I don't know why we didn't have one while I was younger. Now that I live away from home, my parents call me to come "play with my sister" because she just wears them out. Of all the family pets I can remember, Miss. T certainly has been a joy for my parents and the whole family. I have decided that when I purchase my first home, a JR puppy will be the first pet I own!

He was named after Steve Prefontaine (Olympic Runner from Oregon) because of his love of running fast & also because my Dad is a big Steve Prefontaine fan from way back. We also have 2 cats named Emmy and Binx who Pre gets along with great!!!

Our Jack Russell is Harry, and he is now two- and- a- half years old, and still as mischeivous as ever! His favorate games include: swimming in the lake near where we live, playing frisby, playing soccer with a real soccer ball ,and chasing cats (we have to spell this word in our house). We recently had a baby girl, and Harry just adores her...even takes his toys to her in hope of a game!

I've got 2 JRTs, brother and sister, and they
are quite a handful! I've never had a dog before
so training these pups was (still is!) very interesting.
They require so much more than I ever imagined, but they're
wonderful companions and I wouldn't trade them for anything.
They've got such distinct personalities!

Thank you-- to those who responded to me so quickly after I asked for some information on anyone who lives near me with JRT's! I have made a few phone calls, but the people I have talked to live on the other side of the mountain. If any of you know of anyone in the Yakima, WA or Spokane, WA or Tri-City,WA are who has JRT, please let me know. It would be alot easier for me to travel to those cities vs. going across the pass to the Seattle area. But I will do anything I have to in the end to add one of these little guys to my family! Hi!... We recently adopted Sugar, a 1 year old, long-long-legged, tan and white, female. She had a family in Nebraska that was very sad to give her up but that was forced to keep her crated during the day which they realized was not a healthy thing for any dog, much less a Jack Russell. She's a terrific addition to our family. We have a 9 month old and a 2 1/2 old that she's great with. Her favorite hobbies are digging in her sandbox, chasing bugs, wrestling with my 2 1/2 yr old son (whom she also naps with during the day) and playing catch. We're looking for a Jack Russell racing club just as a fun weekend activity to get all of that energy out of her system. If anyone is aware of one in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, I'd love to hear about it.

We have two lovely Jack Russell Terriers, mother (Lucy) and son, (Jackson). They recently moved with us from a 1200 acre farm in North East Scotland and are adjusting to urban life in West Vancouver. Their big disappointment is a great shortage of rabbits, as they were good for at least a dozen a day on the farm. They have had difficulty making the transition from predator to prey, and have already had one run-in with a pack of coyotes. Jack is, I'm pleased to say, fully recovered. Not only did he survive the attack, but he managed to cross a major and very busy road and found his way home where he'd only been living for 3-4 weeks ... A Jack Russell's Incredible Journey in miniature!

They are both female, short-haired and cute as can be.
I am looking for a mate for Snazzy. She has longer,

At this present time I am not the owner of a JRT; however, I have been doing my homework and with any luck will be the proud owner of a JRT later this year. I work with a young lady who has a female JRT and she is so happy with the dog it drives you crazy to hear her talk about it. She talks about the dog as if it's her baby, which she is. She is not the reason I wish to join the ranks, but the energy these dogs put off is awsome. And of course Frazier and RCA didn't hurt my decision either. I look forward to hearing from you all and once I adopt one these magnificiant animals, I look forward to bragging with you all.

I am a proud owner of a 5 year old Russell named Wilson who displays the normal characteristics of the breed. I wonder though, can anyone offer any sugestions on how to 'calm' him down when the doorbell rings. He's a bit nippy, actually fierce, so the unpreditability factor is huge. Normally I would just open the door, let Wilson say howdy and be done with it. I fear that there will be the one time he will actually chomp on someone and we will be doomed! Any suggestions out there? Does Wilson just want to say hi! or would his behaviour suggest the desire for some tasty visitor snack? Please help. We love our dog dearly and would trade him for the world. Is he normal or are we really bad owners?

One year ago on June 17, 1996, we became the proud adopted
family to an eight month old long-legged JRT. He was a poor
unwanted pup who was going to be put down if a good home
was not found. We are suckers for dogs about to be put
down, as this is how we acquired our first dog - a St.
Bernard. Quite a difference in size and energy! Our JRT,
named Rocky, was an early birthday present for our four year
old who loves him dearly (most times, unless he has chewed
up a much loved toy). As I was growing up, we always had
at least one dog around, but never before a JRT. These are
definitely the most intelligent dog I have ever been around,
and sometimes Rocky is a little too smart for his own good.

Great web area, I will be back to visit it often.

Dear JRT Lovers,

I'm a 6 month old "typical" JRT. My name is Tazzy and I own
my household. My pets (er, my owners, Phil and Elizabeth)
think I'm child number 7 in their family of six older kids, a granddaughter, a canary, 2 siamese
cats,2 Heinz 57 cats and a horse. But I am the Queen of the domain.

I love nipping the cats heels and jumping at the canary. The horse, Eliza's Philly is really tall.
But no matter, she is no match for me. Pet Phil hasn't been well this past 2 years and the family
got me to add sunshine to his life. I certainly can add the sunshine along with a whole lot of other
scenarios. But.. I got them all right where I want them, curled right around the
end of my short little tail. And Katelyn, the 3 year old granddaughter thinks I'm her toy. Have I got
news for her. I play with her and I teach her I am the boss ! But I really do love them all. My home
is a very active one, but that's the way I like it. There's always a challenge !
I was so glad to find this JRT page. We sure are good looking !
Hope to hear from some of you soon.

Love TAZZY.

I am 24. Married (have no kids) and I want a JRT. I live in a 2 bedroom condo, moving to a three in a couple of months, in the Houston Area. I have a pretty active lifestyle that would allow my dog to go with me just about everywhere. My only problem is that I do not think that I would have enough room to occupy the little guy. I know that they need lots of room. I am a terrier fan, so if I am unable to get a Jack until later I would like to find a suitable terrier breed for my situation. Please email me with any suggestions. or send photos to erowmjim@msn.com

Hi my name is Colombo. I am a 36lb. JRT. My favorite hobby is ripping up basketballs and toys that my babysitter buys for me. I am almost 3 yrs. old and have succefully trained everyone around me (especially mommy and the babysitter). I am very good at getting treats whenever mommy leaves to go to work for the day I sit in front of the door so she can't get out (I also add a growl and roll over on my back for dramatic effect) mommy feels sorry for me and gives me 4 treats. Daddy just shakes his head at mommy in disapproval. Mommy brings me to the sitter every saturday, this is when I get all my toys and treats, he gives me at some sqeaky toys a basketball and some superballs every weekend. I'm very happy to have such nice people who care about me, this is why I can get quite upset sometimes when other doggies come around mommy for attention I let them know that she's my mommy and I'm not willing to share.

I'm proudly owned by an 8-month old male with great qualities. I had always heard how smart these guys are, but I have been amazed. Boz had basic obedience down at 3 months, sit, heel and and OK stay. Now he is almost completely obedience trained. He's also learned some tricks like shoot and play dead, roll over, and sit up as early as three months.

I would love to find some better quality JRTs in the Houston area to breed with next year (he thinks he's ready now and does not hesitate to mount any dog he comes across). If you know someone or are interested, please contact me.

I hope that every JRT fan does their part to PROTECT THE BREED AND THEIR QUALITIES. These guys are getting popular and I've seen some bad JRTs out there that are getting mixed. I even saw a spotted (like dalmation) JRT that this guy bought for $250.00 bucks and he thought that he got a good deal.

Hoi, Sinds 22 juni 1997 hebben wij een puppy van een maand
of drie oud.

I welcome any and all advise about training, house breakin, kids, and such.

We have two jr's, Bertie, 8 years, and Polly, 4 years. We had Bertie first but we were both at work and decided to get another one for company but not a puppy so we bought Polly who was unwanted. Bertie is quiet, highly intelligent and just a lovely personality. Polly - absolute opposite - a 100 miles an hour dog - brilliant guard dog - wants to attack everything in sight and yet gets so upset if you tell her off - so we don't. They are both very spoilt and lovely friends.

Having owned various breeds, I have to say that I have found J.R.T.s to have the best characteristics, intelligence, courage, gentleness and above all, loyalty.
I have had the pleasure of the company of Jasper for 5 years and have just obtained Jess, who is a 7 week old bitch, who is already showing signs of the aformentioned
traits. All my family love both animals dearly and they are very much part of the family. Here in England J.R.T costs between £70.00- £130.00, (how does that compare with prices in the States for example?).
Although J.R.s are popular here in England there is a degree of snobbery amongst some owners of other co called "Pedigree breeds" who tend to see them (jr,s) as an inferior breed, more fools them, is what I say!
Opinion bred through ignorance eh!
I welcome your comments etc.

Our JRT is Mattie, and she just turned three years old. She has brought so much
joy to our family, friends and neighbors. All the kids just call her the
Wishbone dog. She loves all people but sometimes isn't too crazy for other
dogs until she gets to know them. She is absolutely the dominate dog but we love
her proud nature and loveable antics. I would love to get another JRT to keep
Mattie company when we are at work but we aren't sure if it would be a good idea
or not. Any comments? Our son takes Mattie into the woods frequently for long walks,
swimming in the river, and hunting. She loves to snoop into every hole, tree
log, etc she can find. She had a "fight" with a barbed wire fence and had to have
seven stiches in her chest and that about broke our hearts but she came through
just fine and it didn't affect her love of going to the woods. I don't think
we will ever be without a JRT in our home again. We spoil her and she loves it.

We just adopted a JRT today (6/26/97) ... Maggie has been a kenel dog for her first year of life:-( She's adapting well to life in our household. She gets along well with our 12 y.o. Beagle, Tasha; and our 3 y.o. Boxer, Heidi. One bumer behavioral problem is piddling, that will go as she gets used ot home here; we had the same thing when we adopted Tasha 11 years ago. Any ideas on how to quickly get a JRT acclimated to a new home environment to shorten the piddling stage would be appreciated. Thanks and have a great day!
