Meriden, CT - USA - Monday, September 01, 1997 at 09:38:53 (PDT)Great site! I own a 18 month old JRT named Cindy. She does rule the house. I am so pleased that everything I read about JRT before purchasing one is just about all true. I love their personalities! They DO take a lot of time training, but I found that my JRT was not aggressive toward my daughter -- who was 6 when I got Cindy. As a matter of fact, she seems to be very gentle when playing with her. I wish I could say the same thing about the cats!
JRTs forever :-)

Princeton, WV - USA - Tuesday, September 02, 1997 at 08:28:56 (PDT)We started out with a JRT pup. India is now 8 months old, and we can`t believe how quickly she has become a family member. We have just adopted a 2 1/2 year old to be a playmate for the younger one, and it seems to be a good choice. We are total JRT fans now. We wouldn`t get another type of breed !

Victoria, B.C. - CANADA - Wednesday, September 03, 1997 at 15:49:28 (PDT)I've got an 11 month old JRT female who is just a darling and very sweet and compassionate, however, when we leave the house more than once in a day, she starts biting out parts of the sheetrock wall... I know that it is probably part-frustration and part-anger in provoking her actions. She gets a spanking and is given the "cold shoulder" for the next few hours. She is told that she cannot swim in the pool, nor can she go for a walk. This problem has been occurring about 1x/month, however, recently, 2x/week (since we are always at the hospital visiting my wife's dying father). She has not been able to go for walks as the time is not available..What am I to do in order to control her from this destructive activity???? Help!!!!!. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

San Francisco, CA - USA - Thursday, September 04, 1997 at 16:43:49 (PDT)Hello, My husband and I received a JRT for Christmas in 96. He has become one of the real joys of our life. He is our only child. His funny antics never cease to amuse us -- he's a riot! Could not begin to tell all the hilarious things he's done to amaze us in the short 11 months of his life. If I gave in to my heart and could afford it I'd have a house full and love them every one! What a loving wonderful breed. Enjoy your site so much. Sincerely, Sharon Wright

Perry, FL - USA - Friday, September 05, 1997 at 09:51:22 (PDT)Our lives have once again been taken over by a JRT. Alli, our 12 week old pup (Alli Barber - get it?) ... has filled the gap left by the passing of our of last pet. No question about which breed to get. In our view, there are JRT's, and all the others are just dogs.

Grants Pass, OR - USA - Saturday, September 13, 1997 at 16:52:14 (PDT)Hi! we have four bundles of mischief in our family, Tess, 2.5yrs; Jake, 2 Yrs;
Lucy, 1 yr (daughter to Tess & Jake); and our latest adddition, Scully, 14 weeks.
All get along like a house on fire they love to race but hate sharing toys! toys don't last long around here. They have worn a patch on our lawn where they like to chase the one who currently possesses the toy. All of them sleep with us at night & won't get out in the morning, especially when its cold outside. We usually have to bribe them with Choclate or treats. Same goes for the car. the slightest, quietest mention of the "C" word and all hell breaks loose at the front door. The race is on again to see who gets pride of place on the parcel shelf in the car. We will neverown another breed of dog and would love to get more.. but I don't think our neighbours could cope with any more barkers!

Gresham, OR - USA - Thursday, September 18, 1997 at 20:28:51 (PDT)I have a 17 week old JRT named Frisco. I have found him to be all
that I expected in a pet and more. He was housebroken in less than 2 weeks
and has been very active and well-behaved overall. The one problem that I am
presenting to anyone that reads this is as follows: When I return home, even after
a short period of time, Frisco has a tendency of getting overly excited and ends up
urinating, no matter where he is. This is becoming quite a hard habit to break as
I have tried everything from ignoring him for the first couple minutes to ignoring
the problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

USA - Thursday, September 25, 1997 at 14:42:38 (PDT)I have 2 jrt's, one short legged smooth coat (the monster of the two), and the other, longlegged and long furred. I thought owning one was enough, but when you get two together... there's never a dull moment, and never peace and quiet. They dig, they chew everything, tell ME off when I tell them off, fight over the same toys -- even though there's two of them, they sleep on me, they try and pull my socks off when I'm walking, they are the Devil themselves on 4 legs, and I'll never own a different breed.

She is a bundle full of energy and love all wrapped into one little package. She will not go to sleep unless she is on my lap, or I am atleast on the couch next to her. We love her. The only problem that we are having is with house-training. I realize it has only been a week, but she doesn't seem any closer now then she did then. I was wondering if there were any hints or tips that you could give me that may help me out. Some breeds require a little something different. Thank You!

Va. Beach, VA - USA - Tuesday, September 30, 1997 at 18:08:13 (PDT)My master, Pistol Pete told me to say Hi! to all the J-R-T lovers in the world. One quick note from me, his loyal servant - please beware - especially in this period of great popularity for this wonderful breed ... if you are thinking of purchasing ... I have a friend whose heart and the heart of her children are broken, because the cute little puppy they thought was a JRT has many problems and the vet told her it looked as if it came from a puppy mill. They already love the little girl so much, that even the suggestion of putting her down is unthinkable. Please, don't let it happen to you. Check out the sellers as thoroughly as possible!! If possible ask to see BOTH parents. Good Luck and Great Fun with your JRT

Houston, TX - USA - Wednesday, October 01, 1997 at 13:24:27 (PDT)Hi there! My husband and I have a 2 year old Jack Russell named Walter. He is "The Waltie Dog" to those who know and love him. I fell in love with JRT's when my sister got one. Walter has been a great dog, but I have to admit that when I first got him, I was overwhelmed. He wanted to go into everyone else's yards, in addition to ours, to bark "up" trees at squirrels. We have rats and mice, and unfortunately he doesn't ever find them, unless they are already dead. Walter has killed a few skunks and has no problem being sprayed, although we do! He LOVES to swim in the pool and everytime he hears a splash, he comes running. I think he is trying to save people when they jump into the water! We solved his "straying" problem by purchasing an Invisible Fence. I didn't think anything would keep him inside of it, but it seems to be working, thank goodness. We live on a busy highway, and I definately did not want him to get hit. Walter seems to have a fondness for rat poison, and has gotten poisoned a few times. We don't leave poison around, but the exterminator thinks the rats take it out of the protective boxes and "stockpile" it someplace that Walter was able to find. I definately am not using poison anymore after the near death experiences. Signs to watch for ... if yours gets into poison are: lethargy, and gums that turn white-ish. Get them to a vet right away if you notice those signs. The vet will inject vitamin K, which is an anti-coagulant, and that along with tablets will help get their system back to normal.
I'd love to see more JRT tips people have on this page! Thanks!

Perth, W.A. - AUSTRALIA - Saturday, October 04, 1997 at 21:24:08 (PDT)Toby says "HI" to all of his Jack Russell buddies out there. Toby is a one year old, long legged smothie, who loves to be the CENTER of attention! His favorite passtimes are: tearing off covers of tennis balls, and catching his frisbee. He starts to cry when "mom" is paying attention to someone else, until she picks him up and munches on his ears. He is so much like a toddler... it's amazing! Well, Toby says "see ya ... for now!"

Juneau, AK - USA - Tuesday, October 07, 1997 at 13:59:28 (PDT)I have the best JRT in the world! Her name is Holly. I just love her. She has so much energy and personallity. It's amazing! I think everyone who loves dogs should have one. What amazes me most about her is her acting. No matter what we try we cannot get her to quit begging at the table. Not that we have tried too hard (she's so cute, she usually gets her way) Anyway, if she is begging, and you don't give anything, after a while she will start fake shivering. One she was begging and I looked at her and she was shaking. I ignored her for a few seconds. When I looked back at her she was not paying attention to me and thus wasn't shaking. She finally looked at me again realized I was staring at her, She suddenly started shaking again!! She was faking to get food!! I laughed my head off. The funny stories are too many to tell here so I'll stop rambling. Bye.

Nanaimo, B.C. - CANADA - Saturday, October 11, 1997 at 02:17:04 (PDT)Hi - all you JRT lovers! I have a JRT of my own, and I love her more than anything in the world. I am 13 and she is my best friend. She is all white with brown freckles on her ears and her name is Snow. (I know-- lousy name, but I didn't do it!). Believe it or not, some terrible person threw her out and beat her previously. She had no problems attaching her self to me (literally, and I'm sure u know what I mean). She is the most protective dog I know, and sleeps under the covers with me at night. I take showers with her (not baths) and everything. She is a terrific dog. I just have one problem... I want to take her more places, but I can't, because she gets car-sick. If anyone else has this problem and can give me any pointers on how to keep her from throwing up ... I would appreciate it greatly. Please e-mail me if you know of anything I can do to stop this.

Orlando, FL - USA - Tuesday, October 14, 1997 at 12:12:58 (PDT)Mariah is my son's 7 year old Jack Russell Terrorist. He named her Mariah (the wind) because we clocked her at 35 mph for 1 mile while "doing her job" chasing a critter on a camping trip! Mariah's best buddy, other than we humanoids, is: Tess. Tess is a 50 lb., 2 year old, mutt that Mariah thinks is her puppy, and therefore, it is HER duty to discipline Tess - and disipline her she does! Mariah loves to go camping, where she can roam free, chase critters, and swim. She loves to swim. Mariah will throw herself into a stream, catch the current and let herself be carried downstream - she then gets out of the water, runs back upstream and does it all over again.
I have had many dogs, mostly terriers, in my life, but never one quite like Mariah . . . What a joy she is!!

Albuquerque, NM - USA - Wednesday, October 15, 1997 at 08:58:30 (PDT)Our one-year old JRT, Molly, is such a joy to have around. I cannot imagine life without her. Although JRTs require a lot of time, exercise and attention, I think they are worth every minute!

Gaithersburg, MD - USA - Wednesday, October 15, 1997 at 11:20:01 (PDT)You have a great page!
We have had our Jack for about 5 years and he is the best thing to come into
our lives. He grew up to be just the way I wanted him to. His name is Dakota - "Cody" for short. I searched for 2 years to find the right breeder, and, it was
worth the wait. I don't know what we would do without him. I only wish that I
could get a playmate for him ...

Atikokan, Ontario - CANADA - Friday, October 17, 1997 at 13:26:04 (PDT)My Wife and I own two Parson Jack Russell Terriers, one named Saffie, and one named Holly ... their PedigreeNames are: Ruff'n'Tuff Saffie, and Ruff'n'Tuff Rambler. Saffie is 22 months old, and Holly is 6 months old. This is the second J-R-T site I have found on the Web in 48 Hours, and they are both Brilliant.
The amount of information available is astounding. Our dogs are the best thing that a Person could ask for and, We would personally recomend them to anyone as a Pet or a Working Dog.

Lutz, FL - USA - Sunday, October 19, 1997 at 06:32:51 (PDT)I have two five year old male litter brother, Holstein and Teddy. Holstein is a multimedia star in the World Book Encyclopedia CD-ROM under Dog behavior, panting, digging and eating grass. Teddy is working on becoming a star in commercials and his own video series. They are my pride and joy, but quite a handful at times. Always trying to be the dominant one... but, we handle the growl fests with good dog command behavior control. And they wish we would play with them 24 hours a day. Especially tennis ball and squeaker-toy. Jacks will one day rule the world!
Thanks for a really cool web page.

La Quinta, CA - USA - Sunday, October 19, 1997 at 15:21:11 (PDT)Hello!
We have just gotten our Jack Russell and he is 13 weeks old now. Our family had gotten Jake 1 week ago, and he is a very happy pup... Jake and us still have some time to go to find out about each other but I'm sure we will be just fine... He listens very well, and knows already what we do not want him to be doing. He has been very good about learning about where he is to go to do his dutys....
There is one question I would like to ask-- should Jake have his shots?-- as he will only be a house dog, and will not be out running with others...??
Yours Truly, Wayne and Gayle Kenyon...:-)

Hamilton, Ontario - CANADA - Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at 13:07:44 (PDT)We are owned by Hannah and Nipsie (mother & son). Both have short-legs and smooth coats and unlimited amounts of love and energy!! Hannah is the "Tree Rat Queen" (can't say squirrel without sending her into a fit!! ... and Nipsie is the swimmer, and he can't stand it if my husband and I show each other any affection ... unless we pick him up, and he can join in the hugs & kisses! We are trying to break them of sleeping in the bed with us, but I think it is hopeless ... they definately have us "trained"! Thanks for a great site! John & Lauren Montgomery <johnm@megabits.com>
Merritt Island, FL - USA - Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at 17:16:51 (PDT)It is nice to visit such a nicely composed WEB site for those of us who love J-Rs. I have myself two beautiful young female JRTs who I enjoy a great deal. My son is attending college just south of you at Vassar, so if you have a store in Rhinebeck, we may visit when out there. Best of luck in your business.

Portage, MI - USA - Wednesday, October 22, 1997 at 18:14:40 (PDT)Hi, I just recently found this web site, and I must say it's the best JRT site I've seen so far. My husband and I bought our JRT - Jack Dempsey, this last July. We looked at several breeders before we made our final choice. Jack has a rough coat and weights 21 pounds. Is this large for a JRT? He's very comical most of the time. There are times however that he gets a bit aggresive toward my husband and I! We've already established that Jack and children don't mesh. His aggresive behavior is troubling. It includes a lot of biting at the hands and at loose clothing. Tomorrow Jack will be 7 months old, and I hope to find the solution to curbing this behavior soon! Any sugestions would be welcome... Bye for now, all you JRT lovers.

about Jack Russells being very aggressive towards other small animals, Ajax is a perfect gentleman and is very good around my two ferrets. He does love to chase and attack blowing leaves & paper though! He is a very smart dog!
